Pandora batteries-> 20 years later

Post by 17daysolderthannes »

From what I've heard, knockoff batteries can't be made into pandora batteries, so what's going to happen in 20 years when the current batteries won't hold a charge and you can't buy official batteries anymore? You may say "that's 20 years from now, lol, I won't care by then!" but when I've just played the NES this morning, I can tell you I will. By then, every PSP ISO will be readily available and custom firmware will allow you to play all of the "ROMs" on real hardware, like an NES flashcart, but should you ever brick your PSP, it would be impossible to unbrick it without a working pandora battery. I guess someone might pick up the slack and make Tool batteries seeing as companies make 3rd party controllers, etc. for Atari onward, but if that doesn't happen, its quite a pickle.

You could still use a Pandora with the charger plugged in, and then use some knockoff battery when you're done with the flashing.

Just replace the cells in an old psp battery and you're good as new. I have taken apart a psp battery to make a hard modded pandora's battery and it looked like the cells shouldn't be too hard to replace.

Either replace the cell, or buy a third party one. They DO make the, look at the Datel Tool Battery, or the $6 ones on dealextreme.

No worries, this is never going to be a problem. :D

If there is a demand, it will be filled. The aftermarket will always step into take care of things like this. :)

Doubt the psp will even be relevant in 20 years. It's pretty much only used as an emulation station right now because it's portable and effective. In 20 years time, we'll be playing Xbox 360 games on something half the size using our minds as the controller.

itll probably be like a Game Gear in 20 years. Game Gear was always in the Genesis..isisisiss' shadow like the PSP is in the PS2/PS3's shadow. If I could get my hands on a Game Gear flashcart at a reasonable price with a relatively simple interface, I would be pretty stoked. I think custom firmware kinda ruined the PSP as you can't deny its gotta be a big chunk of the cause for poor game sales. No one wants to develop for a system if the games can be pirated super easy. It's what killed the Dreamcast. More than anything, I blame Sony for making the games so expensive, any more than $30 for a new portable game is too much.

No it wasn't, it was competition from the PS2. Copying of the games wasn't possible until a few years after its demise.

that's not what I heard...and if that WAS the case, then why did they make a Rev 3 (identified with a circled 3 on the bottom of the system, as opposed to a circled 1 or 2) that couldn't run bootlegs and other self-boot discs? The Dreamcast would've held up just fine against the PS2: it was cheap, there were lots of fun games, 4 controller ports made it a party system, it actually had better 2D capabilities as well as more texture RAM, there was lots of mini-game potential with the VMUs, it was very similar to the NAOMI arcade hardware, and the list goes on. PS2 only had slightly better graphics and the advantages of DVDs for storage (and playback). I guarantee you that piracy is what killed the DC, or at least developer perception of piracy. Hell, even with only a 2 year life span the DC has a better library than the Game Cube.

Apparently, as of January 2001, piracy was already quite rampant on the Dreamcast:

Heck, this article goes back to July 2000:

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2000/07/03 ... ntipiracy/

Piracy killed the dreamcast, end of story, just like its killing the PSP right now (that and obscene prices for a damn portable game).

That's not a flying car, thats an airplane with wings that fold to let it putt around on the ground. A flying car (for practical use) would be capable of VTOL without a launch pad bigger than a driveway and safely buzz about a city without running into another flying car and without requiring any super difficult training. So, as I said, we don't have any fu cking flying cars [/discussion]
