Anyone have any idea how the scroll-wheel works on the sandisk sansa e200? I'm trying to replace the scroll wheel with tacts but I don't understand how the thing works. here's the guts of the wheel:

I don't understand how it differentiates a left and right turn and how I'd do that with tacts.

this is totally out of my ass, but I think it might tell direction and speed using electrical fields. That would explain the evenly spaced plates.
I don't think you can recreate that very easily.

Well I finally got around to looking this over again and I've figured it out:

connect the cyan colored area to the red area and it will scroll once counter-clockwise. connect the cyan to the Yellow and it will scroll once clockwise.
that's all there is to it. place a tact between cyan and each of those colors and you've got yourself buttons for the scroll.
