What mp3 player should i get?

I've had both Zune's and iPods, and its really hard to like iPods after you've seen how good the zune is.

I don't have any experience with the other MP3 players suggested here, but once you start talking about cracking it to put 3rd party firmware on, it just seems like you're asking for instability and trouble. That's just my opinion though.

Rockbox is not what I would consider unstable, my original firmware has probably crashed more often than rockbox has (usually when trying to watch videos). I'd actually classify rockbox as pretty damn stable (not to mention high of features). Its also available on many platforms including cowons, ipods, Archos, Gigabeats...

its been in development for years so its not like its just been slapped together.

Those are too expensive for what they deliver. I'd rather get a sansa clip which is of comparable size, less cost, and is said to have just about the best audio quality on the market. and it has a small screen.

They are about Â£30? Which is really cheap unless you go for a no-name brand, even with 1GB storage and first-party credablity.

Frankly, I think most apple products are over-priced. The Sansa Clip is about double the size and has a screen. Kinda kills off the whole "belt clip" thing really...

tbh, I use a shuffle when i'm running/cycling/walking because it's so tiny and out of the way on my belt and smaller than just about everything, feels comfortable and doesnt get in the way of objects I need in my pockets or anything.. plus combined with some outfits it actually looks pretty cool.

I don't think the screen makes it that much bigger.

Clip: 2.2″ x 1.4″ x 0.5"

Shuffle: 4.11 x 2.72 x 1.04 cm

but, its a matter of preference, I'd personally take the one $10-15 cheaper with a screen so you can actually do stuff and superior audio quality and an equalizer.

I would definitely have to say iPod. I have a 5th Gen 30GB iPod w/ Vid, and I love it. I have had it for years, and pray that my battery doesn't crap out on me. Pick up one of those off ebay, get a new battery on there, and your set. Otherwise, I would recommend iRiver. I had one before my iPod, and the sound quality was great. Can't go wrong with iPod though.

PS: Get a white one. The black ones show scratches and it bothers the crap out of me. My iPod Video is scratched so bad from just putting it in my pocket with nothing else that it's screen is unreadable.

Make sure you get a case too.

My brother has a 4GB Creative Zen, he likes it. A 2GB one costs $70 on Newegg. It also has a SDHC slot, and 16GB SDHC cards are less than $40. Only bad thing is that files on the card aren't integrated into the library. It does video ok, I'd only use it for video if it was a last resort.

No im not. i dont hate the ipod but i think they are in general overpriced, fragile/failure prone and its just my personal preference to have something different

most people got PSPs or DS i bought GP2x that kind of thing
