Genesis 3

Post by AfroLH »

On this forum I only see stuff about the Genesis 1 and 2 but what about the Genesis 3.
Why is this?

Yeah, we need forum for ALL OF THOSE Saturn portables that have been made.

God, I can't even count them on one hand.
Or one finger.

I wish someone would make one.

Being the Saturn lover that I am, I do, too, jjhammerstein.

If nobody else does, I plan on being the first. I'm thinking a laptop with an integrated keyboard and mouse for web browsing, a built-in Netlink for the same purpose and for playing against other people across the country, an internal memory cartridge, and, of course, controller ports. Think one of Ben's earlier Xbox 360 laptops, but with a Saturn inside.

I didn't know the Saturn had a Web Browser. That makes it even more awesome!

Oh, yeah, it had several, actually. 22.6kbps connection speed, though. Oh, well, still pretty impressive for a game system in 1997.

Built-in, yes. The Saturn had one available to buy separately, though. Google the "Saturn Netlink." I've got one myself; it's pretty sweet. It didn't have true online play, though; it was more like calling your opponent on the phone. One would have his Netlink set to "Call," and the other would have his set to "Wait." You would enter your opponent's phone number, their Netlink would answer, and you'd be connected and having fun, lag-free gaming. Back in the day, there was a website you could access from your Saturn to set up matches with other people, but now something like AIM would work better.

Wow, that's pretty cool! Now I kinda wanna get my hands on a saturn, lol. Too bad I don't know anyone who has one that I could call and play games against/with. A Saturn laptop..yes...I can see it now.

And to be back on topic, the Genesis 3 isn't the easiest to find, and on top of that, it's widely considered to be vastly inferrior to the Genesis 1 & 2.

You should totally get your hands on a Saturn, you won't regret it. I'd play with you, too.

You'd need a Netlink-compatible game, though. There were only five: "Saturn Bomberman," "Sega Rally Championship Netlink Edition," "Virtual On: Cyber Troopers Netlink Edition," "Duke Nukem 3D," and what is likely the rarest Saturn game of them all, "Daytona USA: Championship Circuit Edition Netlink Edition." (Of course, if you have a modchip, you can "acquire" any of those games at no charge.)

This is why I want a Saturn laptop: It's got too much cool stuff to fit into a handheld. Not that the Saturn would fit into a handheld form, anyways, but still...

The Genesis 3 doesn't have 100% compatibility.

Right, more like 99.9% compatibility. :P

Dunno what this dude did, but he got compatibility back up for 32X, etc.
