Small screen, 1900x1200

Hi all,

I am going to be building a desktop, but I'd like to create laptop-styled monitor/keyboard combination so that I can interact with the computer like I did with my laptop. Since I'm going to be doing video editing and graphics intensive projects, I'd like to use an lcd that can display (at least) either 1920x1080 or 1900x1200. Unfortunately, the smallest monitor with this resolution I have been able to find is 21.5 inches... which is think is a little big for lap use. Does anyone have any suggestions for a 17-19" widescreen lcd that can do this kind of resolution?

Dell do do 1920x1200 17" screens on their Alienware laptops, so they must exist in 17". But that's definitely the smallest screen size you could get at that res.

What country are you in?

The smallest 1920x1200 displays are laptop 15.4" screens from Dell computers .. But it will be slightly expensive to get one with a controller to run it.

Then you will need to buy a broken 15.4" Lcd off Ebay to have a case for it.

But here is where you can buy the 15.4" display and controller :

You can email the seller , but I think the controller "might" work with the 17" Dell 1920x1200 laptop screens.

I am upgrading from an XPS with a 17" monitor that does 1920x1200, so I am looking to match that. I'm in the US.

This is great information! Probably a little more than I'm willing to spend right now on this project, though! I was hoping for an off-the-shelf 17" lcd that I could modify. But maybe I'll look into this controller idea more.

This is great information! Probably a little more than I'm willing to spend right now on this project, though! I was hoping for an off-the-shelf 17" lcd that I could modify. But maybe I'll look into this controller idea more.

There is a cheaper Wuxga controller called the MST controller, and I think it will work with the 15.4" or 17" Wuxga Dell replacement screens :

Email them to see if it will work for the 17" screen.

By the way you can get the 15.4" and 17" wuxga Dell replacement screens off Ebay for less than $150 most of the time.
