Looking for my next gamming monster (choosing new laptop)

well, I just wanted to know wich options are avalible relating to gamming laptops, yes you read it properly, I do not want one of those crappy laptops wich share the graphics memory with the ram,I was looking about something wich can run cuarent daily games at max settings, like crysis, assasins creed,....ect. and of course it need be a laptop.

obiusly I will need to pay it, I has been googling for a while, and I got a really interesting site.

I read the details of the machines,and I got satisfected with the machines specs, but not with their price, so I was wondering if you guys know any other alternatives or similar sites wich offer similar products at lower price.

I know this is probably hard due those are rare laptops wich are not usually are standard computing shops.

I just wanted to know what other options I have, like other laptop stores wich have avalible laptops with high gaming capabilities at a good price.

I will be satistedted by only some advices or you guys give your opinion.

I'm also sure some ppl of those forums bought high specs laptops a few time ago.

I wouldn't go for an alienware if I was you. They're manufactured by dell. They're overpriced. You can get a OEM version or even a laptop with similar specs for WAY less.

Plus, alienwares technical support sucks.

I'd go for a Voodoo. And because they partner with HP, they can bring you cheaper, more powerful computers.

I'd look into what Toshiba has. I think they have a gaming series that's a decent price for power. I'd give you a link but I'm at school.

yup, you are right about the technical support.

I also visited the dell site, when selecting the high specs computers, it redirect me to the alienware site, I will try looking for others sites

I read about that model, but I think it isnt avalible yet.

compared with alienware I think them are a crappy and expensive and have a Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100(shared) this means this doesnt have dedicated ram for graphics, and intel isnt provide as good GPUs like ati or nvidia, the hdd have low GB space ammount,I dont care now about hard disc or solid disc, I think them are a bit experimental and them allow lower space atm than hard discs.

Anyway I will keep looking

I know desktop pcs are cheap than laptops and usually have more features and allow more compliments and accesories to expand their capabilities.

anyway IÂ´m sure I want a laptop, I move a lot, and I would like to take my comp with me without lose quality and graphics. I spent every day more than 3 hours at public transport on a bus so I think it would be a nice decision.

and the idea of portabilize a desktop PC by using my electronics knowledge, sounds interesting, but not viable, it will be expensive (casing,a small lcd screen,powerfull bateries), hard (by reallocate lot of stuff and remove some parts) and the result will probably will not be as portable as I need.

I checked the toshiba site, and it seems better than other sites I saw

anyway it seems a bit expensive, I dont know why just by adding a decent graphic card/s the laptops become really overpriced

what IÂ´m looking on laptops?

*I dont really care about the size, this means I DONT need an ultra/super/mega slim/thin computer, I really dont care about, also I valorate big screen keyboard sizes,so I will be happy if it fit on a medium/big size laptop suit case and dont have gay colors like pink on it

* I would like overclock abilities, and an advanced bios, not like most of market laptops wich have 2 or 3 basic options at the bios, kinda crappy... all the interesting stuff is locked and cant be changed

*I would like at least 2 gb ram ddr2 -3

*about graphics this is most important part Im looking for, Im looking for a high specs graphic card with at least 512 mb dedicated vram, wich supposrt pixel shader 4.1 .......and other features cuarent games require.
I also considered the option of dual graphics cards for extra performance (SLI) this really increase the gamming specs

* I would like to have a blue ray reader, but If it comes with a regular dvd burner will be ok.

*I dont care about the OS it came by default, cause probably first thing I will do is make a full FORMAT of the hdd/s (all I need is driver support for xp pro and or / vista ultimate edition

* I also would like it comes with a nice internal minipci wifi card, or at least it came with minipci card, so I can be able to remove it with an atheros chipset card to *play* with WEP networks. (I would like minipci slot due I' m not really satisfected with usb WIFI interfaces)

* a few usb ports, I will probably plug some external drives and a external usb mouse when at home

*I would like also the laptop have at least 160 GB 7400 rpm hdd storage sata, if it come with 320GB 7400 rpm it would be nice too

*and last point is I want also a long battery life, due I may be without can charge it for a while

all of those stuff I would like set a max ammount of 2500$ anyway I can consider other stuff.

I really unable to find laptops with those specs.
nearest site with those machines I saw was alienware site, but I have some doubts about

I also would add another graphic card (same model, so I will have two cards with SLI enabled

Really interesting, it is near the permonance I wanted (a bit lower, but I will consider this one), but on a lower price, I think I will keep this one for the moment.

anyway I didnt worked very much with AMD computers, I heard them are a bit cheaper than intel pcs, but they have similar permonance, this means I can save some money

Take a table with you, and play the desktop on the train

Anyway, You have your GCp for portable gaming

yeah this laptop I am using right now, a Lenovo T61p has a Quadro FX570m, and it can play Fallout 3 at a good 30-60FPS, of course on Low Graphics settings (which don't look all that bad really.) But this laptop costs around $2k USD. Though I was lucky and got it without a battery or power cord for free.

Just build a Desktop, I built a Desktop that wipes the floor with this laptop and it cost about 1/4th of that this laptop costs.

Laptops shouldn't be used for gaming, way too much heat in a small case is a big no no, heck mine gets up past 75c on the GPU under load, my 3870 in my desktop only gets to like 68c under load doing Folding@Home GPU client, but only hits like 60 at max when playing games.

yup I also though about.

I visited the site today.

And I have to say, I didnt liked it so much.

all of laptops I saw there use shared ram to the graphics,I specially hate this.

I also have a bad experience with acer computer BIOS, very locked and low options , like a toy for children

I also have cuarently a acer laptop, and I was unable to get upgreades (hardware) from them, the technical service is also bad organized, at least at spain, that why I dont trusth a lot at this company, I preffer to check another type of laptops

about my gcp,I told you the batteries are dead, and a battery replacement will be expensive, and the system cant update the case right now,I also passed most of gamecube games, and homebrew, I usually use my gcp to play at the bathroom when boring or when I am lazy at the bed, but I think my adventurer portabilizer days got near the end, it require lot of time,money and work,and it is stressing most time,I only did it to demostrate myself I was able to build something cool and to play my favorite games on the bus, but do it usually like a weekend hoobie is kinda unreliable :S. the case also is crappy and the people get excesive excited when I pickup it from the suit case, So I preffer do not use it out of home anymore

IÂ´m also dont satisfected with usb wireless cards cause:

* them Usually freezes, and you need to disable/enable them plug/unplug to get them again operative, so this basically means you cant use it for any serius networking stuff.

*most of them do not have antenna connectors, and internally most of them needs hardware hacks wich most of times don't increase range.

*the RF power is usually also more limited than internal ones.

* and of course everytime I need to use wifi, I need keep it plugged

thats why Im happy with my old laptop mod, wich have a old minipci card wich modified drivers for wep cracking and a external antena mod wich allow third party antennas by using a SMA connector,I did lot of test, and comparing with most of ppl, my laptop detect lots of networks my friends dont do with their default laptops or usb wifi interfaces on them.

yes,I know most of laptops arent designed for games
(I really dont know why this is, gamming industries are becoming bigger than films industries, so this means a huge mass of ppl/money, but companies still making, thin/cute laptops wich have locked all settings for dumb users wich doesnt need to do anything to use them......)

anyway, the reality is most of serius gammers preffer to buy a desktop machine, wich allow modding/customization features, several expansions, lower costs, more support, them are also more confortable to play, but like I said I want a laptop due several reasons I mentioned before at this topic.

atm best choices I have are this site harshboy told me, it have some gammers laptops,them arent as powerfull as alienware laptops, but I think them are elegible to my situation

anyway I still keeping my eye too at alienware laptops, ofc looking carefully the prices.

seems this may took me a few time.
