PSP fat pinouts

Post by 17daysolderthannes »

the PSP screen is connected with two ribbon cables: a really wide/big one and a very narrow one with only maybe 4 pins. I imagine the big one is the one handling most if not all of the picture data, so what is the small one for? I ask because the little retaining clip on the small one is broken (like that when I got it, its a broken UMD with custom firmware), yet the screen seems to work fine. It still makes me nervous though as it would be easier for corrosion, etc. to form. Its not a huge deal since I just came across another PSP with a broken UMD, but I will probably sell this one to a friend and I don't want to sell something that's going to run into problems soon.

The tiny cable is the backlight. Voltage is all.

is each trace a different thing or are all 4 combined into one later on?

I have one sitting right here coincidentally... :)

It appears that the two middle traces end immediately. The two outer traces widen, and I'm guessing one goes to each side.

I can't see too much more without disassembling the entire thing, but I don't want to because it is a tested good backlight. If it was toast I'd tear it right down for you.
