Thrust+ Platnium Review

Post by vb_master »

If you have an Atari 2600, you're going to need to buy this game. If you don't know the address for it, here it is. When I first bought this game, I knew my $35 would go a long way (I had a $5 off gift certificate that I won with a contest, anyways). As soon as it came, I popped it into my Atari 2600 with modified NES controllers. It started up in PAL mode, so all I had to do was switch diffuculty switch B. I sat there in awe listening to Thrust theme song by Rob Hubbard, and adapted for the 2600 by Paul Slocum. As I listened, I took a look at the box and manuel. The box is of exemplary quality, not some sheet of paper folded and glued into a mess, but a purly Atari-quality one. The manuel is probably the best made one I've seen. It is also of Atari-quality. I then took a look at the star of the show -- the cartridge. The cartridge is also of Atari-quality. No sir, the label is no joke. This label on printed on glossy paper to make it exactly like the ones on a real Atari cartridge. After listening to that amazing theme song, I took it for a spin, with the novice setting! This game was simply amazing, I sat there thrusting, tractor-beaming, shooting, and going up to the stars, avoiding the same structure as I went down in. The scrolling is AMAZING for an Atari 2600 game. The score and gas left has this neat color scroll effect. I got up to mission 8 in Novice mode, which is reverese gravity (GASP!). Reverse gravity is hard, but fun. After I finished playing, I listened to that amazing music again.

Graphics 9/10
The graphics are simple enough for the game. Sometimes an object would fade away when the crystal was on the same lines, but that's just a problem with the Atari 2600.
Sound 10/10
The sound is amazing (see review). Nuf' said.
Controlls 9/10
Sometimes the action can get a bit hectic (like in reverse gravity mode), bbut they are easy enough.
Final Score 9.4/10
Pick this one up, it is a game you cannot miss for your hard-earned money.
