Hey guys my intial ideas and question

First ill start at the Beginning where all good stories start(Except momento which was awesome).

I was went to the junk yard to dump off some scrap metal and i seen in the skip what look like a N64. So I checked no-one was looking and jumped in and yes it was.

A n64 with all the cables, a controller and a cart(which turned out to be The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time). So i took it home excepting it to be dead but when I hooked everything up and pushed the power button, everything was in working order except a little cosmetic wear and tear. Perfect.

After being completely distaracted for a hours on end playing Zelda again.

I started to search the grand interweb and found some cool portable and with the help of google found this site.

And i have decided to take my first stab and portilizing.

I have a few questions


1.When implementing a portable n64 do you need to integrate a jumper pack?

I know i am getting a little ahead of my self but

2. Where/How can i get a TI PTH08000 in the UK or Where can i find a equivalent?

My first idea is just to install and battery in the console and maybe find a way to creat a wireless controller.

Maybe even wirelessly transmit the tv signal.

but After i try that i will move on to bigger and badder things

I know the answer to your first question - it's yes. You need the jumper pack. Some people have worked to cut its size down, so you might research that.

You may want to use an Expansion Pak, though; I've heard it draws a little more power than a Jumper Pak, but you've got greater game compatibility. (And if you liked "Ocarina of Time," you've got to play "Majora's Mask," which requires the Expansion Pak.)

Very unlikely you will make a wireless N64 controller and even less likely for wireless tv signal. Anyway, even if possible, if you are making a portable, you don't need wireless...

I am unfamiliar with the phrase "In the skip", but are you saying you stole an N64?

"In the skip" refers to the fact that when you get rid of your rubbish (trash) at the local refuse centre, especially for large items, you throw them into skips and they then go to recycle or landfill. He just took the item from someone's discarded trash.

It is technically "theft by finding" in the UK, however that term in this reference is more for taking metal or similar from skips as the recycling plant makes money selling it on, if they knew about the console, same would apply, however chances are no issue; so yes, technically stealing but unlikely to matter.

Even if it did matter, I doubt they'd pursue legal action over a $15 game console worth even less than that as recycled parts.

Also, if you're making a portable, why not just integrate the screen and controls, along with the system components, all into one case? This way you'll have everything in one convenient package and not have to worry about making things wireless.

$15? cheaper than that - at car boot sales in the UK you buy N64's for about £3 - £4 each. Often that includes cables and maybe a controller too. I bought an N64, two controllers, expansion pack for £5 last year!!

That's just the standard secondhand game store price around here, bacteria. I bought one at a garage sale just up the street from here with two controllers, and all the hookups for $5. Got five games for a dollar each at the same sale, too.

I have some good news I spoke to someone in the electronic department a Heriot Watt University and they said they might be able to get me a TI PTH08000 if I am serious about this project. But apparently I would have to keep an up to date journey on the project exact instruction on how I done it, Which doesn't sound like a bad idea anyway.

About the whole "in a skip" thing I was technically doing the junk yard a favour because the "skip" I took it out was suppose to be for large metal items only. So if anything the should be grateful.

Looking back i did kind of contradict myself by saying I wanted to make a portable with a wireless screen and controller I now kind of feel like an idiot(note on my first attempt at spelling idiot I misspelled it.)

More good news I might be able to get a PSone screen off a friend for free.

This might turn out to be the cheapest portable in history at this rate. unless I blow the N64 mother board which i hear is quite easy to do.
