Hey guys i'm new here and new to making portable consoles.my first project will be a portable n64. here is my first plan on what it might look like
i will be using a wood case.is that good?we don't really have the money for an all out case.most of the materials is already expensive enough.i also want to know if i can use this battery for it http://www.radioshack.com/product/index ... Id=2062147 i might add to this post if i need help with anything else.trying to keep stuff cheap.but have it work of course.

Ha haaaaaaa.
That battery won't even power you for 15 minutes.
You're going to want a 7.4V-9V Li-po or Li-ion battery upwards of 3000mAh.
Look around on Batteryspace.com. Also, look at other people's build logs, they use good stuff.
Canon camera batteries are good too, for less money.

so maybe i can use my portable dvd player battery.it's a 7.4v li-on battery.and it recharges.would a diffrent battery recharge with the original n64 powercord?would it work with the psone screen?

you can use any screen that has composite input. You should check out the sticky in the screens forum.

I think we should check to see if you can withstand 220 volts
You can use whatever screen you like, as long as they have composite input (especially for UK PAL N64's) or RGB (as long as you don't have a UK PAL N64). Other considerations are picture quality, size and also voltage requirements.
The PSone screens are regarded as "rather good" and better than their third party equivalents; however you can use other brands and types.
Sure, in the UK you pay £40 for an unused PSone screen, inc delivery; however I won (e-bay of course) one a few days ago for £30 with a PSone screen, PSone console, two controllers, memory card, official PSone case and power supply; and today another for £23.50 inc delivery for a PSone screen, PSone console, 1 controller, power supply, three memory cards and two games. Pretty cheap really; they also seem to come on offer on e-bay a few each month on average, so you can get a good deal if you are ok to wait for a few weeks max.
another question.i have 4 energizer rechargible AA 1.2v 1850mah batteries.could i use those for my n64p?would i have to use all 4?and how can i wire those as the battery for my portable?would these work for the psone screen?

What would y'all give this one?
20, maybe 22 minutes tops of playtime?

Regardless of playtime, several people have seen their portable not even start up on a full charge, AA batteries are just too small and they cant supply that much power all at once.
Oh and you'd need at least 6 for this to work theoretically (1.2 x 6 = 7.2 volts), and if you had 12 batteries (2 x {6 batteries, 7.2v 1800mAh} = 7.2v 3600mAh) you could make it work for reals.
If you want to keep it real cheap then dont use batteries for now, maybe leave an empty space and use it with a power cord until you save up some cash. It will take you a long time to build all the rest of it and the battery can be added last.
And 5 inch LCD screens arent really that cheap, $30 for a psone screen if you can find it is a really good deal. Basically if you wait long enough you can find one on ebay.
