Voltage regulator for the screen

I plan to get the pdv 0700 portable dvd player battery for my n64p.

I'm pretty sure this battery is 7.4 volts. But I'm 100% positive that it's under 9 volts so it won't short out the screen.

However I read somewhere here on the forums that a battery sometimes on a full charge can go up to 10 volts, or when it's plugged in.

Is this true? Can the voltage change? Wont I need a regulator for the screen then?

A 7.4V battery doesn't typically peak at more than 8.3V

I believe part of this (but only part) is a myth - a battery will read a lower voltage when it's being measured while running the system than it does when just being read with a multimeter. Try it!

Every battery will react differently under a load, but yes, the heavier
the load on a battery the lower its measured voltage.

For instance, an automobile battery can drop down to as far as nine to ten volts when operating the starter, with a 12.6 volt off-load measurement.
