alternative IPod softwares?

Post by Aurora A14 »

I have an iPod that I got second hand from my brother. It's a 4gb nano which has a problem (just a lack of backlight  ) and I don't want to install ITunes on my gaming PC. Is there any alternative programs for iPod song management out there?

iTunes isn't bad. It's certainly better than that mess Windows Media Player 11.

Looks like you can do it in WinAmp.

Personally I use yamipod, which can be found at http://www.yamipod.com/main/modules/home/

It's about as simple as you can get, doesn't need installing and is completely portable, so you can run it from the ipod if needs be.

If you don't mind running a *NIX OS you can check out Banshee. It's compatible with iPod for music, and last I checked they were working on video and photos. It's simple to add songs, I personally never added a playlist but that should be easy too.

Be sure if you do go this route to download the AAC, LAME (MP3) and other codecs needed for iPod. But if you use yum or apt-get that shouldn't be a problem.
