Acer Aspire one Wifi issues

Well for Christmas we got my mom an Acer Aspire one (linux one). So when we got it I set it up to use the wifi, this went fine until just recently I was at a friends house and I come home to find out that my dad did something to mess up the wifi. So he hands it over to me and I can't even open the network options tab, it will not get online over lan either.

Any ideas?

I talked to them on the phone and they had me re install the OS

So the problem is on the computer's end? There's a reset button on the router, but that's no use if it's the computer. Uninstall the drivers?
