Help my NTSC game won't work on my GN Twin...why?

Post by cryslynne »

Hi everybody! I don't know much about video games, except that I miss playing the original nintendo and sega genesis games of my childhood. So I bought a GN Twin online from amazon.com, 1 Nes game, and one Sega Genesis game. I haven't recieved the NES game yet but I got the Sega one today and it won't work. I turn it on and it tells me that "this games was designed for the NTSC game system only." Like I said, I'm no video game genius, but isn't that what this system is designed to play? Am I missing something? Can anyone explain to me what this means?

You ordered everything from the U.S., right? Unless the Genesis game says "Mega Drive" on it, there shouldn't be any problems.

It's Disney's Aladdin made by Virgin Games. It says genesis on the box, I did order everything from the U.S., and I don't see "Mega Drive" written anywhere on the box or cartridge. My daughter was particularly excited about this game and is going to be disappointed when she gets home from her Dad's tomorrow if I can't get it to work. Is there another switch I need to flip or something? What's the one on the back for that says O/J? I tried it both ways and it still won't work, but I'm curious what the switch is for anyway.

Perhaps the cart is Japanese as it isn't PAL? Normally, MegaDrive means PAL and Genesis means NTSC; not sure Japanese.

It was the Mega Drive in Japan, as well, but it was NTSC like the North American Genesis. However, a Japanese Mega Drive cartridge won't fit into a Genesis console.

See if you can find either NTSC or PAL written on either the box or the GN Twin itself. If it says NTSC it could be that your game just isn't compatible. If so, try to find a few more games to try; if none of them work, then your console obviously isn't NTSC.

It says System NTSC on the bottom of the console. It does however say, "Programmed, printed, and assembled in the USA. Cartridge made in Japan" on the game box.

Well, where it was made should make no difference; it sounds like a standard U.S. game to me.

Is there, by any chance, a switch on the back that says "NTSC/PAL?" I know some of those newer remade consoles have the ability to switch between the two. If not, get yourself a couple of cheap games to test out. If none of them work, then your console is probably bad and you should exchange it.

Thanx guys for all your advice. I'll try some other games and hopefully my NES game gets here soon so I can see if that one works. That would probably be helpful. If anyone knows more please let me know. Thanx again.
