Voltage divider?

Hi! I have an external battery that outputs 16v or higher.
And i wonder if I can use this with my pstwo, if i divide the output to lets say 8,5v or 9v since the pstwo powercord outputs 8,5?
How is the best way to do this with an circuit?

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

You can't use a voltage divider (two resistors) for this. Apart from dividing the voltage, they will also limit the current so much that your pstwo won't be able to power up.

Use a voltage regulator. 7809 (Positive 9 V regulator) should do the job, but might need some heatsinking since the input voltage is so much higher than the voltage you need. The regulator will burn alive because too much current goes through it.

It's a switching mode regulator which is more effective and will produce less heat.

How much power does the ps2 use? Maybe it's a good idea not to power it with a battery in the first place?

Thank you for input. It's a playstation 2, the slim one.
I really don't know how much power it's using, but the adapter says it's 8,5 volts.

Anyone tried to do this with a pstwo?
Maybe someone who has made a portable?

What else does the adapter say? Something like "100 W" or "5 A"...

That's about 45 Watts. (8.5 V * 5.3 A) I think you'll have a hard time finding a (small) battery that can give you that. You need something in the range of a laptop battery.

My external battery is for a laptop.
It outputs 16v, 20v, etc. It has a capacity of 130W.
So it is BIG!!
But can i make it output 8,5v or 9v?

Does anyone know of a good resource about DC converting?
