Anyone in the SCA?

Post by jjhammerstein »

Just wondering.

If you don't know what it is, you can look it up if you like.
The main site is sca.org.
I figure with this many people on the site, SOMEONE has to be.

Are we talking about the "Society of Creative Anachronisms" here? Yes?
Hang on a sec

:puts gun in mouth:

seriously, most of the people that I knew that got swept up into that are really pretentious bastards. Now don't get me wrong here, i like go to festivals, especially in costume and sword with a huge mug of fyne spirits, right. Now most of these people believe that the are the end-all authority on anything medievel so they feel free to critisize as the please.

Take into account:

Me: Bloody hell, if it aint the Sheriff?
SCA-Sheriff: First off, who are you supposed to be?
Me: drunk at the moment, but I am wearing a kilt.
SCA-Sheriff: Obviously you have no concept of history. Your kilt is on wrong, they tied it the other way and it isn't pleated. Your claymore is absurd since it is modeled after the ones from the 18th century, not the 16th which we are in...
Me: (watching busty wenches on cellphones, and someone dressed as Gandalf drinking from a flask) right, so explain to me this whole anachronism thing your so proud of...

See, this is the attitude I got from everyone I ran into who claimed SCA. Now I'm sure they probably have a lot of fun, but coming off as an ass to everyone because you belong to a club...I dunno. Fest is supposed to be about fun and drinking, not hypocrites acting like they owned the event.

anyhow they also were critical of the fact I had steel, and not wood. What the piss? Dude it's a freaking sword....

end rant.

You want to learn how to fight with a sword? I'm sure there are plenty of other places that with teach you the art.

100% truth.
But those are generally not the people who fight.
Almost all of the fighters are really nice, helpful and fun people.

i see people in esquimalt cross from tash's garage who do all sorts of sword training. and in china town theirs an eastern school that has a huge class to do there methods too. still if you pursue that stuff with out a class room of safety minded instructors you find you have be come children with sticks.
