4chan stopped being anything of value in late 05'.
They may still be around, but they haven't actually produced anything of any value in years.

Most Original Content and old members (people there since the beginning) moved on "primarily" to 7chan, which died (much like 4chan) last year.

Right now, there is no real concentration of Original Content or oldfags (old members) anywhere in particular.

Then something needs to be done about that. All the 4chan people I know are/were far too attached to it to simply say "eh, just gonna wait for the next thing". They either HAVE gone somewhere else, or they need a new place, fast.

Nope.

If you think you can make an english Imageboard that can compete with the others, be my guest, but don't expect much from it.

Over 100 English imageboards are currently active.

The most successful being 4chan, 7chan, and 420chan (sadly).
When I say "most successful", I mean "most profitable".
Moot makes ridiculous amounts of money from ads.
7chan is lucky to profit on a monthly basis.
420chan often misses payments.

None of these of course make anywhere near what 2chan makes, being the oldest and most active imageboard. (Or, at least, it's credited as being the oldest.)

How do you define when something "Valuable" comes out of 4chan? Is that not a bit subjective to your own views? Note that I would not know, I am not a chan person.

Of course all of it's a matter of opinion.

I haven't seen anything funny or new or USEFUL come out of 4chan in 3 - 4 years.

Being things that haven't been seen before, things that aren't overused and are funny, and things that are helpful to others.

I wouldn't be too sure about that. Income, sure, profit, maybe not. 4chan is in the league of the 10-20 most traffic-producing US sites, which means hosting costs a great deal. I saw a thread on 7chan saying that their AdBrite contract had gone/would go havoc, and that that would result in the permanent end of 4chan. While that thread could obviously be bogus since it was on 7chan, I gave it certain credibility because it was stickied and posted in by mods and admins. The tone in it was humble and its purpose was not to bash 4chan, but rather discuss what to do if 4chan ceased to exist, which would result in at least tripled traffic for 7chan, and a lot of banned users. ( =lots of work for the mods.)

Sorry for the rant... tl;dr: I don't think 4chan is only moderately profitable, if even that.

There is no such thing as 2chan. The proper name for it is 2channel (Written in Japanese as 2ちゃんねる, for some reason with Hiragana instead of the more common Katakana for foreign-inspired words) It may also be abbreviated 2ch, but not 2chan. That's an anglification that comes from the English world image boards. These are called "chan" not because of the original meaning "channel" but because -chan is an affix used in Japan to describe mainly little girls, and is als used in Japanese pornos to mark the difference in rang between the men and the women.

Well excuse me, I call it 2chan.
A lot of people call it 2chan.
2chan fits the naming scheme, and that's why I use it.

Also, 4chan is Moot's full-time job.
He makes plenty of money, I can assure you.

350,000+ Unique Visitors a day.
4 Million + Unique Visitors a month.
A site with that kind of traffic, having been around for as long as 4chan has, makes PLENTY of ad revenue.

Even if they made 10 cents off of every visitor, that's $400k a month.
Now, I don't think they really make no $400k a month.
But still, 1 cent off of 50% of their visitors would still be $20k.

I can assure you, the cost of maintaining the servers, along with the few paid employees, doesn't even brush the $20k mark each month.

currently on 4chan there is 9gb of active content ad 29,000 users. the sheer amount of bandwidth consumed by /b/ alone in one day is probably more than this forum uses in a few years.

assuming a bandwidth usage of 325 megabits per second 4chan uses on average 1,281,150 gigabytes of data transfer a year approximately (if my math is right and i think it is) something like that anyway

as an example electric_rains server has a 1tb data transfer cap for a month. going by that chart 4chan would cap out his server in 6 hours
