Batteries with a higher mAh have a higher current draw which will increase the firing rate of your gun.
Well thats Total horse crap. As long as the battery has the correct voltage and can supply the current rate of your device (in this case a gun) it will not matter what the mAh is. Who ever wrote that doesn't know anything about how batteries function.

Oh and a motor will not spin faster because the battery has a higher current draw. The motor will take what it needs. The battery is not going to force feed it current. :lol:

mAh doesn't determine how many mA can be drawn. But, if you have bigger cells (like a C instead of a AA pack), then they can usually put out more amps because of the larger area inside the cell.
The only way the motor could be faster is if it can't get all the power it needs from a smaller cell.

Generally, we think of batteries as more amperage = more battery life. But in the airsoft world, this is only somewhat true.
It would be best for me to not try to explain anything to you, and for you to research this on an airsoft forum or guide.

Basically, the general rule of thumb is higher voltage = higher ROF. But there's a lot more to it.
I wish I could point you twoard some articles, but it's really useless. (And I can't find the one I was looking for.) Just get the biggest battery that can fit in your gun. (I mean, one that's designed for your gun.)
I have a 9.6V 2200mAh Nunchuck battery in my M4, and it works fine. Most kids I know run 8.4v 1100mAh batteries and they work fine for their purposes.

Running a higher voltage then what your motor is rated for will burn it out eventually. Never run a electronic device over its rated voltage.

Also Airsoft World equals this world which means the laws of electronics still apply. A battery that has 1000mAh will have the same firing rate as a 2000mAh as long as the voltage is the same and the current draw of each battery is over the draw of the motor.

Well, a general statement about electronics. Not going anywhere with that, though.
That said, airsoft motors are made to run off of anywhere from 7.2V to 12v. Nobody suggested anything higher.

Nobody argued that. (Well, the guide did, but you should know what I mean here.) I specifically said "higher voltage = higher ROF".

I really hate arguing but looking at an airsoft gun from the perspective of general electronics knowledge doesn't get you anywhere. This is one of those things that you've had to be experienced with to know about. You can study everything from books that there is to know about fighting but you'll never get the wisdom you earn from getting a few scars.

That said, if you put a large battery into an inexpensive gun, I'd bet the tappet plate would go first, followed by the piston. (In other words, not the motor.) But good thing LPEG's use different batteries than AEG's anyhow. And even a $80 gun runs on a 9.6V fine. I've used it in mine.

I respect you (rekarp) and your wood working abilities, but the way I took your post, it sounded like you were trying to make me sound like I didn't know what I was talking about. So, I presented my arguement, no matter how pointless I thought it was. The kid's asking about a battery for a toy gun for peeps sake.

thats a maybe at best. or 100% true but it depends on how long eventually is. depends on the tolerances and quality of the motor for one thing. and how much higher voltage we are talking, if your running a 12v motor at 24v it might run like that for years or it might nuke itsself in half an hour all depends lol

True I have never had a problem running dc motors on higher voltages...

I have an RC car that was originally supposed to use 6 AA batteries (9v). I wired a 7.2v 3300mAh NiMH sub-C pack to it and killed the motor after driving for about half an hour. I assume the bigger pack allowed the motor to draw enough current to melt the windings. A future project of mine is to replace the dead motor with 2 similar sized motors, hopefully they'll be able to take the powa'.

I was saying that as a general rule. From your post it sounded like these motors are built to run off of 8.4V. You must make sure the motor can run higher voltages before doing so. I have seen a couple industrial DC motors that where run above there Voltage capacity fail.


Don't worry bert I was arguing directly at what SonyPortableizer posted. Makes me angry what people try to post as fact sometimes. 8)

totaly... I like they bouth forget the gear box.

ok remember the amps translate to like how big the gas tank. some gear boxs I bet down more Amps right?
