hmmmm... No, I don't think it'd fry it, but from what I gather, the only joystick that works on an official N64 controller is an official controller joystick.

Theres two fuses per controller to save your ass...
Just make sure you got the power and ground right, it shouldnt be that hard. When you start things up for the first time after working on it be ready to shut it down if the led doesn't come on..

Yeah I thought so too... does the potentiometer-type joystick work on original n64 controllers?
no the gamecube joystick will not work with the Official N64 controller because it uses a different system of joystick movements/measurements. you must use a controller that uses potentiometers, aka a 3rd party n64 controller. the only way to do this mod is to have an UNOFFICIAL N64 controller.
newguy101's right. N64 joysticks use photodiodes and stuff and everything else uses pots so you need a 3rd party controller if you're gonna use a gamecube joystick.
