Question for the benefit of myself and other people who...

...have empty, yet good condition, console cases left over after portable projects.

For the sake of example (And because its the one I have)...an empty SNES mini case. Would you rather buy it unmodded as frankencase material or a stock replacement for one that may be cracked, or damaged?

...or...

Would you rather buy it case-modded (Paint/lights/cutouts/whatever) so you can just install the SNES mini board and screw it back together for a more up-to-date look?

I think it depends on the system. For a relatively rare system, like a NES toploader, or even SNES mini, I'd like to see it as an option for an easy restoration. For something common, like a 2600 or genesis, they're a dime a dozen anyway, might as well soup it up to make it stand out.

I myself have a spare dreamcast case, a psx case, and several gameboy cases. I'll probably paint the DC case black, but I don't know what to do with psx one. I won't mod it because my psx already has a modded case. My GBO case has been modded by widening the d-pad hole to fit a snes d-pad. I'll probably paint that too, since it is yellowed from age. But after I switch out my old cases with modded ones, I will have the un-modded cases lying around. The only use I can think of is to make some of the excess cases into ABS goop using acetone.

In the case of modding it then selling it, the excess case - for me anyway - would be part of the trade. I send a modded case, you would send the stock case back and money for my labor and parts used in modding the case I sent. Thus giving me perpetual business, and lowering the price on the modded case slightly. Prolly the same with replacements. Send the old/damaged/whatever plus some cash (Not as much for a modded case, but enough to be fair), get the new case in return.

I think that should depend on the condition. If it is a relatively nice case, then sure sell it plain. If it is yellowed, or dented, or whatever, mod it and 'restore' it.

I think the 'rare' thing is an important point aswell.

Why not have them send you the whole system, you put the modded case on/mod their case and put it back on, and send it back? Then you won't be limited to just customers that can take their system apart.

+5 points for those who remember my SNES lamp.

It's still being used as my lamp today, and so far, a direct 120V AC line to the SNES switch to a 60W light bulb has held up 100%, no problems what-so-ever.

I posted it here but few cared. But it's a prime example of case recylcing.

The point of having the new case is for repeat business Maybe not with the same person, but selling a case, and getting the case it replaced is a good way to have at least ONE thing to sell. I'm trying to find a way to make some money. so I can pay bills and stuff. I wanted to take a sort of opinion poll on this subject before actually posting a sale thread.

And vskid. Good idea. I was thinking just among Ben Heckers for short term (Cuz that's when I need the money; Short term. IE: Now.) but I guess I could expand it easy enough just buy having that as an option.

I guess another thing I could do is have people send in stock consoles and have me mod them by request. That would be a bit more expensive though.

On that note, if anyone wants to buy a PAL SNES housing, I got plenty. NTSC internals will fit. Carts won't. (unless you expand the hole)

Smooth. And I would, but that wouldn't be very productive in making money, would it?

Prolly gonna sleep on this idea for a few days. Maybe not. If you see my name pop up in the trades section, you know why its there. The only case I have right now is a near-mint SNES mini case. Looking into acquiring more than just that.

I would like to see more opinions on this, so don't stop posting! When I've made up my mind, I will request topic closure and move on from there.

It still works wonders. And still has the first light bulb in it. But it does slide a little when you turn the power on/off, and I never got around to doing anything about it.
