Would this run ona Thinkpad R40?

R40 Specs:

CPU: Intel Pentium M @ 1.8ghz
Ram: 512MB
GPU: ATI Radeon 7600 with 32MB. (I think its the 7600.)

I'm downloading it now, but the file says .iso.dlm.. I've heard once it finishes that will go away. Is that true? (the .dlm)

Run? Probably. Run Fast? No.

You would lose all of your files unless you do a dual boot like I did.

I just have two 120GB partitions (240GB in total, it's a 250GB drive) and one has Windows Vista and the other has Windows 7.

Google "Hiren's BootCD 9.7" It's probably the best rescue disk you could ever have. It even has a bootable version of Windows XP on it. Just partition your drive so that you have your Vista partition and at least a 20GB (I would actually try for 40GB) partition for Windows 7.

Never heard of that file type, but are you using a download manager? It probably acts like the .part system in firefox so once it's done it will be a .iso file.

Maybe in Windows Classic mode. Microsoft recommends 1 gig, and after using it on such a computer so do I. The processor might choke on it a bit, but you may be able to run it. Don't bet on it running Aero, anyway.

Yeah, I know it sucks but I getting a new computer this summer so I at least want to try out 7 for now.

I'm using the dload manager active X control that M$ made me use. So hopefully thats the problem.

Now heres a really big problem.. I don't have a DVD drive on my computer.

I have a laptop that does, but I can't install 7 on it. Is there a way to install it on this drive from that laptop? (I'm thinking just make it a shared drive?) Also, does windows automatically do a dual boot menu?(gonna install it on a 2nd partition of my main HD)

EDIT: It downloaded as a .iso, so that problem is fixed. Just now how to install it..

If it's anything like Vista and my old P4 Box that was actually better than yours, then it would run decently, but not as fast as XP.

I had a P4 3.2Ghz, 1GB of Ram, and a GeForce 6800. It ran like ass on that. I upgraded that machine to 3GB of Ram and a GeForce 8600 GT and it ran much faster with the CPU obviously being the bottleneck.

Stick to XP until you get your new beastly computer, that's what I did. I'd just love to see Microsoft try to use all 8GB of my Ram!

EDIT: Windows 7 is using 1.12GB of Ram with only Firefox and AIM open. So, I wouldn't bother.

Burn the .iso image to a DVD using a program like DeepBurner or ImgBurn. Make sure you burn it as a disc image, don't just drag the ISO onto the file browser. Then just boot off it like it was any other Windoes install disc.

The problem is I only have CD-Drives. Not DVD-Drives.

Thanks. I saw that before, didn't know how well it actually worked. I'll try it on my partition in a bit. Think it'll run well with 512 mb of ram, p4 2.79GHz, and an intelgrated chipset into the mobo?

I unzipped the iso for the hell of it, and setup is in there. Can I just run this? Think it would work?

Found! Must be in visualization mode. Show list. Click the little square with a tick in it under the hide list button. That will show the visualizations, plug-ins and enhancements options. Plus some other options.

Ok, I'm finally in. It all seems to work except one big problem.. It's running in really low resolution... Really low. 640x480 low.

I'm running Intel(r)865G Graphics Chip Accelerated. When I looked for updated drivers through windows, it said the ones I had were best to use, same with monitor drivers(generic P&P). My dxdiag report is only showing it running at 1Hz too.
Sadly, I don't think its really compatible with 7. Anyone got vista drivers that might work? I can't find any

EDIT: after trying one more time to install the drivers(my xp ones), windows came up with a pop-up saying that it might not have installed correctly. (always getting an OS not compatible error). This time it worked, and I can run 1024 x 768 now.(my standard sadly.)

No aero for me either at this point.

Downloading 32bit right now.
My laptop has:
1.6GHz Centrino
512MB of ram
Intel 855GM w/up to 64MB
Should it run decently enough to play around with it? Of course I don't expect it to be blazing fast, just ok.
