Is this the best place to discuss this?

I couldn't find any other place to post this so I thought this would be the best place. I am in the process semi-mass producing some xbox mod chips (around 20 or so) and I was wondering if homemade modchips were still viewed as illegal around these parts. What if I sold the pre-made board, PLC socket and SST chip instead? I just want to get things straight before I start posting any threads or such on the forum.

Yeah, I would think it is, just as long as it doesn't boot unsigned code straight out of the box, they should have to program it or something.

Okay, I see what you mean. What if I load them with cromwell bios or flash bios? I think both of those are completely legal.

Cromwell is legal since it's just Linux, but you know people are just going to use it to flash EvoX or similar BIOS to run homebrew/copies.

Building the chips is legal, it's the code on them that makes them illegal usually.

How much are they, and do they have any advantages over other commercial chips?

And yes, this is the method that dealextreme uses to sell wii modchips. They sell them as chips without any code on them for "DIY electronic projects".

I'm still developing them, but they would be pretty basic inexpensive modchips. I wouldn't expect to see them go for more than $10 shipped

I like the idea, just wondering. I want an el-cheapo wii modchip.
