PS1 screen battery question

hello hackers

this is my first post, ive been lurking for a while, and have finally registered.

i have a ps1 screen, and i stumbled upon a laptop Li-ion battery.

im pretty handy with circuits, ive tinkered with plenty of stuff, but i have no idea when it comes to diodes and resistors and such.

the laptop battery is 10.8V at 3.2AH
if im not mistaken, the PS1 screen needs 7.5V to work, right?

if i wanted to use the battery with the screen, what do i need to step the voltage down

The 7805 can step down the voltage to about 8v; turning the excess into heat.

It would be better if you just used 7.2v or 7.4v Li-ions instead of the 10.8v one, if you aren't careful you will blow the PSone screen which would cost you more than replacing the batteries! - use the 10.8v Li-ion if you want to make a GameCube portable in the future.

well as of yet i havent put any money into this project. i just have a lot of crap from over the years and i realized i could assemble somthing sweet with it

Don't use the tin - two good reasons - one it is conductive and secondly - sell it, worth decent money - official NES Mario tin in good condition - Ebay it!!

im not going to ruin the tin, its going to open clamshell style and have the screen and power pack inside, so i can basically have a portable tv to play stuff on.


im going to insulate everything the tin being metal wont be an issue.

can i get the regulator at radioshack?

Don't bother with that tin. You will not get it opening clamshell style without complete butchering it.

Second, it is way too big.

I couldnt agree less. you need to mash one out and see just how quickly that thing will make you regret selling that box on ebay.

I dont know maby if you punch holes out and use some thing vinel to keep the compontents sandwiched to its plastic mounts it couldnt hurt to see what you got. punching its important, dont make any tears if you can that would mess up the holes say for buttons and around the screen riser or frame.
