WTB: 10 LEDs for PSone mod.

Post by jjhammerstein »

I'll pay shipping! :D

Nah, I'll pay a couple bucks for the LEDs too.
I just don't want to spend Radioshack prices, and I'm sure a couple of you buy in bulk.

I think he said he was out.

Also, you had BETTER not beat me by using more than 8 LEDs.

How would you even do that?!?

I think 4 or 6 would be plenty anyway.

I bought 100 off eBay for $12 shipped, I have about 50 left, you want some? I'll shoot you a PM.

Use 8, or use more? :P I have used 8, it required some out of the box thinking. I currently have an idea for 16 LEDs, that will be epic.

I meant how would you use more than 8 LEDs. You could have two at each corner, but unless you put them in the channels, I don't see how you could fit more in.

The PSone diffusion grating is made to spread light ACROSS, not upwards, which is why light from any direction works. In contrast, most laptops have a panel that is angled to only work with light from either side, reflecting it straight up. What I would do is put ANOTHER diffusion layer underneath the normal one with 4 LEDs on each side, then a reflective layer under that. Not only would this allow the middle to be lit as brightly as the sides, it would also allow for more leds. Would make it thicker, though.

I have another, simpler idea though, expect a thread next saturday when I have time to show pictures of it.

I was actually going to experiment with replicating the normal tube light with LEDs.

I haven't actually opened the screen yet, but if I'm not mistaken, the light is only on one edge.
With enough LEDs and the right piece of glass, it might light the entire screen.

Or, I was going to use 8, and have 2 spare incase I lose one and break one. 8)

EDIT: Oh, and my order request has been generously filled. Mario, you're the man. :D
