Let's not run before we can jump on this. No point looking at short cuts before the main functionality is working.

The guitar wouldnt be that badder idea, it might work, but it still uses the Wii remote, so you would ned to put in the sensor in that to maek it work properly, you can pick up a pretty good quality Wii guitar for $60 AU now...

But you wouldnt be able to play wii sports ( unless you want to play it blindly... )

I can also imagine playing guitar hero on there ( the new one ) or rock band and using the drum kit, and looking at that tiny screen...

but you could play guitar hero with the guitar normally...

When you end up to building it, you should think of building a mic into it for games like singstar ( for your wife if she likes to sing ) or for games like the new guitar hero, except it will just waste room..

It will be a bloody huge portable... if you can get it to work that is...

Has anyone plugged in a classic controller to the wiimote, and then booted it up, run the cursor off the screen with the wiimote, and then used the joystick?

Smaller than a GC portable, and that can fit in a gamegear. How would you know?

Well if we can figure out how the accelerometers and gizmos "talk" to the wiimotes central logic then we can start coming up with solutions. Does it send digital signals? Analog resistance? ect....

I just tried it with the classic controller and can confirm that the left analog stick controls the on-screen cursor.

In game would be nice, but we may have to accept only being able to play games that can use a GC/Classic controller. :( Any solution we come up with, while maybe allowing the pointing aspect, would be useless for games like Wii Sports.

The first thing to do is get the wii menu working, as a wii portable is useless if it needs a wiimote to select stuff. Right now, looks like EDIT: Classic controller is the best option.

I was under the impression the classic controller would not control the system menu

huh, well I suppose the controller option is a no-brainer then, huh? Now we just have to figure out all the accelerometer stuff.

ooh, here's a question: how hard would it be to use the same controller buttons and joysticks and what-not as a gamecube controller? flip a switch and it goes from classic controller to gamecube controller.

Coming in late after reading about 2 posts, but the Classic Controller would only have functionality when the Wii gives it capability (in menus, etc.), it won't do **** in most games.

To replicate the Wii's functionality, there's no other way to do this then have the accelerometer inside the portable. IR point-sensing can be done by touch screen, and that could be fun. However a "real" portable Wii is not necessarily practical.
