Why would I want to LED mod the psone screen?

I have the screen in my garage workshop somewhere, I will probably go find it today, but expect pics sometime tomorrow. It really does look nice.

I need to figure out how to get the same image on both screens, suggestions? Just splitting the signal will make it weaker, right?

I could actually pull off 16 LEDs, after my new experience with working with LCD diffuser sheets; I will post that when I get some more LEDs, should be a week or so. It should look GLORIOUS!

One more reason to LED mod that has not been covered: Shocks. Being the clumsy oaf I am, my fingers often stray to the inverter on accident while testing. LED modding gets rid of that, good for repairs and such.

One more good thing about LEDs: They do not run nearly as hot as that lamp. Makes a big difference if you have hotglue right up against the frame.

I would try it. I know the Duo can drive two displays at once through composite.

Looking at Rekarp's new video, looks like the standard issue - bright corners where the LED's are. That would be annoying. Watched most of the video and my eyes kept going to the screen corners instead of the screen pics, which is a distraction, for me anyway. Logically, if the light source is on the corners, it will be brightest there than the center, which is the issue. Perhaps the LEDs behind an opaque backing plate would make a difference?

Having 16 LED's would take about the same amperage as using the original screen, as near as it matters. If an LED is 20mA each, that means 320mA vs 400mA for the original screen (according to Kyo's figures).

True, but still awesome, because you save space, plus, since my 8 LED mod looks like stock, 16 would probably look WAY better than the stock backlight.

I am looking into using some CREE high powered LEDs from behind, that would be awesome.

Actually in real life the corners arn't lit up. The camera is just much more sensitive to light then our eyes.

Yes, I don't know how to work ohms law, resistors, or other things (if I need to know I Google or ask here), nor can I read schematics in diagram form; my Father finds it rather amusing, given my hobby! What I do use is common sense, experimentation and research - proves anyone without more than basic skills can make good systems (so no excuse, people!).

lol, i taught myself most of my knowledge of electronics, for resistors i also use google and ledcalc, sadly, (im taking electronics next year so that might help)ohms law just confuses me, why would a toaster have a resistance?

also, i have skills to make a portable but i don't have much of an imagination for how it will look or what size(take a look at SifuF's n64p)
apparently im using an original playstation case for my psonep

and mounting a disc drive on the bcak couldn't be harder

A Toaster has high resistance to generate heat. You have to have resistance to do work (power).

P=R*I^2

i wanted to find the appropriate resistor for my leds, ohms law didn't help much

ditto, same thing happenned to me when i opened up my original playstation for the first time, ouch!

All you need is Ohm's law.

V=IR

(Vs-Vi)/I = R

Where
Vs is the supply voltage
Vi is the voltage drop across the LED
I is the LED current

See simple?

I just figured out that you guys use V as letter for voltage. Funny, we use U! I figured there were some kind of international standards, but apparently not!

Only thing I've ever used U for is op-amps in circuit diagrams, I think, haha
