Well, I talked about it, and this project is afloat. It's called the nesPod everybody, and it might be the most minimalistic NES you've seen. It's still being worked on, but at this rate I should be done in a couple of days or a week or so. Started off using one of those Super Joy 3's. No cartridge connector sadly. Gonna stick with the built in games.

Super Joy 3 and iPod shell before desoldering

Desoldered Famicom 60-pin connector. If anybody is going to MGC and wants this, let me know. I'll part with it for free :]

Just a reference shot. I really didn't think it would be this small.

Controllers/Audio/Video are going to be connected via the dock. Just finding the correct pins on this. NES controller will have a firewire port on it for use with this cable. I'm trying to keep everything in tact.

A mock-up of the main board placement. Looks like it'll fit just fine.

Things to do:
- Insulate the inside of the back cover
- Put the firewire port on the controller (Getting the controller tomorrow)
- Wire up the video/audio/power to the dock port
- Show it off when it's done

Do you plan on actually putting a 72 pin connector in/on that thing? Or do you just plan to play the games already on the SJ3?

No cartridge connector. I have a feeling that the 72-pin connector won't fit on the side.

You should try doing like a dock type thing with a cartridge connector in it. Not sure how you'd do it, but it'd be cool.

can't use the ipod dock - not enough pins.

Perhaps you should add in a custom nes cart with many games on it

The Super Joy already has the famous 76,000 games on it, so I don't see a reason to add in one of those 50-in-1 carts.

Yeah it's 76-in-1. Just a bunch of name changes and hacks ya know. Anyway, just a little update here. I've got all of the pins from the dock connector mapped out. The light gun and the controller will both use a firewire port for means of connectivity. Easy enough. I'm still thinking about how to wire the click wheel's buttons as controller 1, but they don't act the same way switching wise on my multimeter compared to the system. I can't really explain it.

Anyway, got the back insulated with electrical tape, about to solder the controls and video/audio out on the dock connector. I hope to get this back up and running tonight if possible :/

I got one of these claiming to have 5000 games, it only had the usual crop of 104 crap games, some repeated.

Other plug'n'plays which are worth getting are the Namco's; you get half a dozen good games on each and the boards are tiny. Smaller than the ones you are using...

yup. i opened up my namco arcade last night, the board wud fit into a gameboy pocket mos likely...now theres a thought...
