Uhm, you have no depth perception if you only have one eye.
Also, I have to say your an idiot if your going to shoot your freinds from 5 feet away with a 400fps sniper rifle that shoots .48 gram BBs. (And, if that sniper rifle is lower than 400fps, than its a peice of crap. Just to tell you.)
Airsoft Newbie Buying Guide: http://www.airsoftcanada.com/showthread.php?t=58784
Infact, I'll post for you guys. I'll link them to this forum post, and see what they think about it.
EDIT: To reduce flaming from them here on BH, I have just copied sony's most recent forum post and made a post about it on their forum.
Here: Airsoft Causes Ocular Damage
http://www.airsoftcanada.com/showthread.php?t=10975
Heres a link to thier input and opinions about sony wanting to shoot someone from 5ft away.
http://www.airsoftcanada.com/showthread.php?t=74133
I also cant find the news article about an airsoft death. There was one that happened in Japan, and one in Canada that happened to a little kid. (One of the posters on the last link I sent, remembers the article and remembers it being in the Toronto Sun news paper 6 years ago.)
In the end, shooting your freind from 5ft away, with a 400 fps gun is going to do some "nasty" damage.
Also, legally you have to be over 18 to use or own an airsoft gun. Heck, the box that your M6 will come in, will say that.
With that said, by all means. Buy the gun if you want. Have fun. Just please, do NOT shoot anyone with that sniper rifle UNLESS: They are wearing the proper protection AND if your over the minimum engage distance away from them. (Usually about 100ft)

I have a lazy eye, gives me about the same depth perception as only having one eye (left eye dominant though I can actively switch to the other, my right eye looks to the right a bit, pretty much gives me widescreen vision). I drive, shoot, all sorts of things. Doesn't make them impossible, just a bit harder. I've also had it my whole life, so I don't know what I'm missing.HotDog-Cart wrote:Uhm, you have no depth perception if you only have one eye.

Your lucky. My freind got denied a license due to him having one eye permanantly blind. Yet he did also have not that good eye for the other eye, that definatly contributed to the matter. I may have been wrong on this case (about the eye), but still. Please dont shoot people from that close.
I hope theres no hard feelings anyone (espcially sony), I'm just looking out for you.
Also, I dont know what the rules are there. But like I said, here you need to be 18+ to own a airsoft gun, or to use one. And that waivers are useless. I hope that those parents done see that you said you want to shoot someone from 5ft away. Heck, with my AK, I have a 10ft mercy kill range.

I am not an airsoft expert, but I am 90% sure there are different weight BBs (6 gram/8gram?).HotDog-Cart wrote: Also, think about this. (This is to palmertech)
Now, a sniper rifle 8mm (or 6mm) .48 or larger BB going at 400+ fps (About 480), will break the skin. I know this for a 100 percent fact. Heck, think about what would happen if that hit you in the eye. It would go through the goggles (Ive seen it happen), and possibly blind or kill you.
Ive never in my life saw a 600fps AIRSOFT gun. Heck, legally here in Canada, they are under 500fps. As if its over 500fps, its considered a firearm. Ive been to a few US games, and Ive never saw or heard of a 600fps gun. Maybe someone extremely modded their bolt action sniper rifle, but thats insane to do.
As for 600 fps: http://www.airsplat.com/itemdesc.asp?ic=GR-KJW-M700-TD
"Initial bullet speed: 600fps."
Obviously, if a commercial product is sold that easily, it would not be hard to mod a gun to shoot 600fps at all. This is America, where we like big, powerful guns.
Keep in mind I was going off the word of the guy who owned the rifle that it went 600fps, but it seems reasonable.
Where do you buy your airsoft equipment? I want to make sure to personally avoid any place selling airsoft goggles that shatter on impact.
And 480fps is a lot different than 400fps.

Excellent

When I say 400 fps, I typically mean anything around that number. Also, 600 fps. I highly doubt that guns 600fps with .48 grams. Its probably 600fps with .20 gram or something like that. Way too dangerous to actually use. And yea, theres different sizes but 6mm is the most common.
Now, typical equipment is: Goggles (Net or plexiglass), BBs, Gun, Military Clothing, Knee Pads, PASGT Helmet, Gloves, etc. The thing is, there are some people who like to use "Biodegradable" BBs. They shatter on impact. If your wearing a Metal Mesh Net Goggle, that bb will shatter and go into your eye. Now you know, and knowing is HALF the battle. People wear net mesh goggles because its physically impossible for them to fog up, because its just a metal mesh.

all i will say on the matter is if you get injured operating or while engaging in use of airsoft guns its either A) an unavoidable freak accident (flawed safety equipment or sheer stupidity) or B) your own goddamn fault for being an idiot.
from that other forum
from that other forum
Only documented case I've seen of a 6mm airsoft gun killing someone was in Japan, and involved a hypothetically highly upgraded NBB shooting metal BBs. The weapon was never recovered and the crime never solved, so very little information is available.
I dont believe the projectile from an airsoft gun can possibly be directly responsible for killing someone, unless it some how magically struck them in a very important nerve or artery.
Really the only way I can think of killing someone with an airsoft gun is bludgeoning them to death with it.
I've seen bb's embed in the skin but that's the most damage I've seen. I've heard reports of eye damage and players getting injured while playing but I've never heard anyone died yet bec of a direct hit from an airsoft gun. Mind you, some of the guys here have been playing since airsoft was invented (Damn, do I feel old)!
Physics much? The odds of killing someone with a Crayola crayon are higher than with an airsoft gun. Low end pellet guns carry more energy than most airsoft guns and most of those can't even kill a rodent in a humane manner.
To be deadly to even a newborn infant, you're looking at something that could take small game, which takes you to the higher end (>500 FPS) pellet guns; airsoft doesn't go anywhere near that.
So short of some freak accident where someone has the muzzle of a highly upgraded sniper rifle stuck up his nostril or eyeball, or some equally boneheaded scenario, the likelihood anyone would die from airsoft is just about nil.

Whoopdie do.
This should be closed soon, but if mods dont mind keep it open.
Ok, We all wear masks.
My rule in no shooting below the bottom of neck and up(Just to be safe) because I have been shot there before.
I also just do stomach/chest or leg shots. the fps will be very low for higher weight bbs for more accuracy.
So someone died, we all wear masks! How can it go through a solid piece of plastic then another, then the face then penetrate the kill?
No one will get hurt. And if it does, ill give you my N64p(The L64). Thats how confident I am. And I love and treasure that.
My name is connor, my friends matt, chris, robert, zach. We all live and play near DC. Anything on the news and youll know it was us then.
nothing will happen, it will be safe and they are not worried I showed them all the forums and stuff.

Its not stupid, I know what Im doing as is he.
EDIT: That hurt very little. It stung for a couple of seconds then nothing. exactly 5 feet away. Right on the skin. o too much pain at all.

Your going to let some kid shoot you from 5ft away with a 400 fps gun? Even after people who have been doing airsoft for like multiple years, say its a stupid thing to do? (Not me, check the links I gave ya, sony. So many people on that website said what your doing is a horrible idea., essentially.)
Whatever man. Its your body, not mine. If you cry, and bleed. I'll laugh. If you dont cry or bleed, I'll laugh because the guns either crap, or the fact that your bullet proof is amazing.
You also say noone will get "hurt"...., wrong. Some people classify hurt as the displeasent feeling that you get when you injure yourself. Such as scraping or cutting a finger, a paper cut, a bruise, a gunshot wound, a limb cut off, etc. Lol.
Your definition is probably different than mine
.
No hard feelings though. Just please, be safe. You're still being quite oblivious, due to the fact that airsoft snipers have a 100ft engage distance, and your willing to get shot by one from 5ft away.

Airsoft kid here,
Depends how much you want to spend on this thing, how you play, and what kind of firepower you're looking for.
My primary is the Classic Army M15A4 carbine.
Here's a link: http://www.airsplat.com/Items/ERA-CA-M15-CARB.htm
If you're looking for a good mid priced AEG, look for ECHO 1's or JG's. I have the JG SIG 552 and It's a great preformer. You can get it at airsplat for around $115. The JG MP5's tend to go for $89-100 at airsplat. If you want a good airsoft review of a few echo 1 AEG's, you can check out "Airsoft Reports" on youtube.
You could also try the CA Sportline carbines or the G&G sportlines. Both will serve you well at around $150.
Lots of info. If you have any specific questions, ask.
