Need ideas for Super Joy 3

Yup. I got myself a Super Joy 3 from a friend for free. Now I just need to know what to do with it. I considered turning it into a portable, but I just don't have the resources, patience, money, and knowledge. I think I am looking more towards a "Tiny NES" system. Some things I've considered:
- Putting it in an old broken iPod 4th Gen shell
- Stuffing it into a dead hard drive
- Shoving into a N64 cart
- Mounting it into a SNES or NES controller

I have no case making skills but my last idea would be to make a custom case that might look like an iPod dock.

I had a feeling that would be the first. I might be able to do it, I've just gotta figure out how to do hook up the outputs and controllers.

I doubt it would fit in an iPod shell. Putting it in a NES controller would be really cool though. Then again it probably wouldn't fit there either.

Another vote for iPod shell. Bonus points if the navigation controls are hacked to be the controller for the SJ3 and you have the screen where the iPod's was.

I was planning on using the iPod's button, but as far as the screen goes, not possible. There is just barely enough room to fit the system in as-is and it is planned as a TV games system.

So far it looks light everything will fit albeit a little tight. I plan on using the dock connector from the iPod's motherboard as the controller port and the hold switch as the power switch. Now all I have to do is figure out how to wire up the power and audio/video out. For the audio/video out, I may end up using a standard stereo headphone jack mounted, well, at the shell's headphone port. As for power, I have no clue. I may have to drill a new hole :[.

It doesn't seem to be TOO hard of a project, though looks can be deceiving. My goal is to be done by the end of the month at the very earliest. I really just want it done for MGC so I can show it off.

Well I'm puttin this away for today, there's not much I can do without some desoldering tools.

Some questions:
1. Super Joy 3's can use official NES controllers right?
2. If the above is correct I am assuming the Zapper works too
3. Does anyone have a pinout of the 2nd controller port?
4. From what I can see, the SJ3 doesn't have your standard 7805 in it. If I am correct, it is that transistor looking thing? The only one's I've seen have that little heat sink on it.
5. I have always had the vertical lines on this, even before I took it apart. Could this be because of their shoddy soldering job?

I hope to get the desoldering stuff soon. Looks like for the dock and some other parts I might have to get SMD removal.

EDIT: Just noticed this Winbond W24129AS-35 IC on my SJ3. It's classified 16K x 8 CMOS Static RAM. Just wondering, any clue what this is for? I'm guessing it's just the RAM, but it seems kind of big considering the NES/Famicom only had 2Kb of RAM.

Quick update: headed over to Radioshack today and picked up my first desoldering iron. I honestly do not know why I have never had one before, these things work wonders. I got the Famicom cart connector off in about 5 minutes.

Anyway, gonna resolder all the crappy joints. More updates later.

If it would work, wouldn't the 3G be a slightly better fit? Stick buttons under the four directions on the scroll wheel, then map the other four buttons to the other controls. Dunno how big the board would be, but it'd be as good of a shot as anything.

not gonna happen. you'd have better luck in writing a NES emulator for rockbox (well technically I think one exists but it needs a lot of work before being put in a build)
