EDIT: Also, you can install OSX86 on it if you needed a mac.

Probably $350, give or take a few dollars.

OSX86 is illegal in the same sense that game backups are illegal. They technically break the terms of service, and CAN be ethical. If someone has a legal copy of Leopard, and their mac dies, it is unethical to use OSX86? It is one thing to just torrent it, which IS unethical, there are cases in which it is ethical. And I do know people who have bought a OSX license to use OSX86 on their netbooks without qualms.

I am watching on ebay, may end up buying it anyway.

No matter which way you look at game backups, they are unethical. The developer designed them to only be run on a certain platform and their license state that.

If someones MAC dies then they should get it repaired, not just pirate software..Thats like buying something on a credit card then saying "...I don't feel like paying interest." It just doesn't work like that!

@2nd dude - I need a Macbook for school, is that enough of answer?

Wait... What? I use backups of my console games, know why? I have siblings, and they are not very careful with my discs at all, and they get scratched REALLY fast. SO I buy the game, rip it, then store the original someplace safe. How is that unethical by any means? Buying used games is WAY more unethical, imo, the original developer gets NO profit from that.

If I buy an OSX license, on its own OR as part of a computer, I see nothing wrong with using it on whatever platform I want. It is certainly wrong to run multiple copies when you only have rights to one copy, or to just pirate it, but there is nothing unethical with using a purchased copy of OSX to install on your PC.

And, Apple charges WAY too much to fix stuff, and unlike PCs, you often cannot find parts that will work with Apple hardware.

@Ketchup: Yes, I know that deal, but at one of the local universities, the school gets free Apple equipment for teachers and labs and stuff if they require Apple computers for certain classes.

Apple makes their money off of the hardware. That's like taking a banana and pulling the peel off, then have it weighed to be priced. It's just unethical.

Buying used games isn't unethical? Why? Because the copy was already paid for. They still got their money, granted 2 people got their fix, but people who own things have the right to resell as long as they have proof of purchase.

Exactly my point. If I have BOUGHT a mac with leapord, and it dies, and I choose to use its copy of leapord on my PC, what is wrong with that? They already got the money for hardware, made a profit. I do not exactly have space for two full sized computers in my desk, so a dualboot on my pc solves that.

And if you pay attention, I never said buying used games was unethical. I said it was MORE so than making backups of my games, which you said "No matter which way you look at backups, they are unethical". I would never say used games are unethical, that is stupid. I was just pointing out that if what you said made any sense, buying used games would be worse. All you have done is proved my point.

Well, you can buy a new, Official Apple motherboard, bring it in to be replaced for way too much.... Yep, thats it. With my PC, I can buy a newer, better motherboard, or buy a dirt cheap generic replacement. If my DVD drive breaks, I can buy a new one that will work, no worries. Can I do that with a Mac? When my Mac dies, I could either buy a new motherboard for $$$, or just install its copy of OSX on my PC. What makes more sense?

Try to replace a laptop motherboard. You are comparing a desktop to a laptop.

I'm not a Apple Fan Boy -- I have two computers, a macbook and a 3000 dollar gaming PC with vista on it. I'm unbiased, but Apple hardware is amazing, and the OS is better than Vista..

I have replaced a laptop motherboard, on an Inspiron 5100. My argument applies to both.

I did not assume you were a fanboy automatically, I did so after, twice, you called things that are perfectly fine uses "Unethical". Both of the things I did you argued against make perfect sense, and do not harm in any way the makers of that agreement. In fact, I would be a lot LESS likely to buy games if I am not sure I can make backups of them to save them from scratches. When you argue against common sense, you run the risk of being called a fanboy.

And buying something and not following the term is not "Wrong" or "Unethical" in and of itself; It depends on what exactly you ARE doing.

Bottom line, using a copy of OSX on your PC after your Mac is dead, or making backups of your games to save them from damage is not unethical in any way, it is common sense. I suppose you perfectly follow every rule of every service agreement for everything you buy? I doubt it.
