nes problem....is it just the 72 pin connecter?

my nes stays on for 10 minutes, then shuts off. is this just the 72 pin connector, and i need to replace it? help soon.

The only way it could be the connector, is if it is losing connection with the lockout circuitry. This would result in a flashing NES at that point however.

Can you check the regulator? I'd suspect that as the culprit first. Either overheating due to never being cleaned out, or just gone south for the winter.

Not hard at all to replace the regulator. It's a standard 7805 regulator; three pins to desolder, one screw to remove; reverse the process to add one in.

I had the same problem with my genny 2. Never knew it was the regulator.

it could also result in garbled graphics, there are a bunch of problems that can be caused by the connector, but I wouldn't imagine shutting off is one of them. It could also be a slightly damaged power plug/almost broken solder joint on the power plug. I fixed an XBOX once that had broken the joints holding the power plug to the board.

if the lockout isn't getting what it wants, it would blink, not shut off
