There is a surprising amount of Canadians here. Actually, I probably just counted everyone twice.
Regarding the OP's question: Read various topics on the forums, especially stickys and project logs. Also check out Ben Heckendorn's projects. If you do something, start a topic and log it on the forums. Include lots of pictures and description. If you ask a question someone can probably answer it.
