Dreamcast Hard drive Interface

Idk about the laptop scsi drives but on a side note. I've always dreamed of a slot loading dreamcast and even an (original) xbox. even before that guy did the mod to the 360.

Fliptop to slot conversion is a lot more complicated than tray to slot conversion. At least with a tray, it already has the motors, and the programming to use them.

Old Mac laptops had them, but I doubt that'd help as the protocol is merely similar to SCSI and not actual SCSI.

A microcontroller could handle the loading and unloading sequence. Another trouble would be replacing or modding the spindle to mate with the top spindle, instead of having the disc click onto it. It would probably require tight tolerances to keep the disc in alignment.

I wonder if you could replace the bottom spindle entirely, you might have to actually.

Slot loaders aren't made to force a disk onto a spindle.
Or maybe you could just add a little mechanism to push it into place.

This is so far above my head, that the clouds are obscuring my view.

you can just pull the spindle off of the motor and replace it with a standard one.
i could make a slot loading DC if i really wanted to. i may.

2 and a half hours later I have mad a conversion to a tray loading drive and it has tray closed / open sensors that still work. The problem is I did this to a drive pulled from a system with a bad motherboard. I grabbed my working dreamcast ripped it apart so I could put in my new creation and sadly it was a different version so you don't plug all the wires into the motherboard, its just one big plug.

Anyways I think it could very well be possible to convert it to slot loading because I converted it to tray loading (although I have yet to test if it works...)
