Breakthrough in Gamecube DVD drive? idk you tell me

I was feeling kind of lazy today, so i decided to find another way to connect the DVD drive spinner to the DVD drive circuit...., i found out that the little circuits under the spinner ( if dremeled ) is just the right size to fit into the little black thing where the ribon cable of the spinner usually went in:

I tested it, works totally fine.
Doesn't seem very useful though, the laser still sticks out .75" south of the mobo.

Im pretty sure I want to make some kind of "videogame hardware in an FPGA" type device.

Well a dvd emulator is one candidate... theres already a lot of groundwork... *wanders off*

This somewhat reminds me of the guy who was doing a 360 laptop for his 4th year project. I don't think it turned out so well for him.

Then again, maybe having your grade riding on getting it done would make it happen sooner....

someone got away with an XBOX 360 laptop for a senior project in Engineering? what a joke! you don't even need any real engineering education or experience to do it, its all just connecting wires. The only thing you might be able to argue is the cooling system, but even that would best be left to a maximum factor of safety (the biggest cooling system you can fit). Some of my friends just made a Segway-ish looking walker (meaning, it has legs like a crazy bug or something) that you can ride on and goes like 10 mph. Look up theo jansen to get an idea of the mechanism I'm talking about.

First off making a portable of ANY type is MUCH MUCH more than conecting wires. If you had made a portable you would know that any electronics project takes lots of time and thought.

Now, as for the nature of your post... if you don't have anything helpfull or relative to the topic then HOLD YOUR TONG! Its like that rule you learn in the first grade " if you can't say anything nice say nothing at all", or mabye your still in kindergarten and haven't learnd it yet.

No kidding. If it was just connecting wires how could ben charge 10000 to connect simple wires in an xbox laptop. Then you should simply make one.

Look, it may be hard for a bunch of teenagers like us, but as a fourth year engineering project, it is fail. All the hard parts are well documented, and if you have a really good knowlede of electronics (Like, college level, not "I iz the goodz") making a 360 laptop is a piece of cake.

Look at Kevin Horton, he appears to be an engineer, and he does insane stuff that none of us here can replicate. If he wanted, he could probably bang out a 360 laptop in a week with no problems.
