I'd like to make my gamecube portable...

Hi.

I'm totally new to all this. I've never really opened any electronic before, much less messed with it, but I'd really like to play my gamecube on airplanes and such. Of course, I'd like a compact little laptop and all, but I think that's a little too hard for me since I'm new at this, and I would probably kill the poor gamecube. So, I just want to do something simple. I want to leave the actual gamecube intact - I don't want to build a case and all that. I really wouldn't mind having a bulky gamecube on my lap in an airplane. That doesn't matter to me. I'm just thinking I'd like an lcd screen that folds up on the top, and I'll need some sort of rechargable battery for power.
Sorry, as I said I'm new to all this, and I don't really know what I'm talking about - which is why I'm posting here. I just need some help on how to get started, or if I need to learn a lot before I even start you should tell me what to read and look at.

You can get these on ebay and/ or amazon. The screen plugs into the back and clips onto the handle thing. The battery bolts into the bottom and plugs into the power socket. No modding needed, only cash.

The Zenith screens are the best, the guts are almost identical to the PSone screen. Just make sure you get a GC one, unless you want to mod a PS2 or Xbox one to fit on it.
I think the battery that Basement_Modder posted isn't that good. Since the Gamecube takes 12v, you could use a 12v SLA (sealed lead acid) like this one. I'd recommend at least a 7Ah one. I'm not sure how much you can discharge them, though, maybe someone else does. Getting the battery on a plane shouldn't be a problem if you explain what it is. My dad has taken one a few times to charge gadgets and hasn't had a problem.

no really, I think DaStan is right. Basement_Modder has the only solution for you if you want to take it onto an airplane. Modified electronics aren't allowed, because they could be bombs or detonators. When the macbook air first came out, that guy got harassed by airport security because they didn't believe it was a real computer.

I didn't know there were screens and batteries already made! That makes it easier. I've been searching around now, and found a screen made by Intec - does anyone know if this is better quality?
I figured out if I get the Intec screen and battery, it will cost me about $75 (getting everything new), which is pretty good.

Intec is the best quality you're going to get from a gamecube screen.

But, honestly, they aren't that bad. Solar Egg used it in the S-Cube. Just gets a bit blurry in fast games, like burnout, but not tat noticible or bad enough to significantly affect gameplay.

I'll get the Intec then. I don't really have any fast games, just Animal Crossing and some Star Wars and Harry Potter games, so that should be fine. Thanks everyone!

This mod stuff looks really interesting though - I love building things and I think it would be fun to attempt something like the things people do here. Maybe I'll buy an old Nintendo some time just to mess with and try to learn more about this stuff.
