In my personal opinion uniforms are useful in only certain areas like Metallica Man X mention in his post. People their have a real fear of being different in the wrong area in small rural areas uniforms would serve less of a purpose and would more or less cause anger and frustration in school.
Its like any type of security measure what may work in one area will not work in all. You wouldn't have anti-air missile in the middle of of a hay field or major port security on a land lock lake.
FYI I'm now starting to feel old I'm a senior in college

Seriously. Enough of the kids sell drugs as it is. lol. I could totally see someone who's like 23 going to a high school to score pot or hit on chicks or something. Like someone who is a /huge/ loser.
What do you people say... does this ever happen? My school had uniforms.
After I graduated, ten years ago, there was a story in the local news about a homeless man who was living in the highschool. He looked like a student, he was about 32ish and simply walked in and went to the various locker areas to duck out. After school was closed he simply roamed.
They talked about how they could've avoided such problems if they had uniforms but that was shot down since you could easily jack an extra one lying around or order one off the net.
It's really not a bad thing to wear uniforms. Of course, most people don't bully and most people don't wear extreme clothing, but there's always a few that ruin it and schools that have uniforms tend be be a little more peaceful. And as much as kids will complain, they'll learn in time that it didn't ever really matter.
As I get further away from high school and the social groups I used to be in (i'm 25 and married with a kid and one on the way), you realize how silly you were to complain about a lot of things that aren't a big deal. Most of us will wear uniforms for work at some point and just be happy to have a job.
It takes a big man to cry, but it takes a bigger man to laugh at that man.
Wow I had no Idea people around here were so young.
you are joking right? like 50% of benhecks userbase is 12-17 those of us who are 18+ are the minority.
on a related note my school was tiny and rural so there was no real strict dresscode, girls skirts and shorts had to go down to at least where their fingertips reached with arms by their sides and couldnt show bare midriff and that was about it lol. japanese school uniforms are cool (gakuran and sera fuku)
