A school-related question. Anyone can answer?

At one point at school, a teacher told us that the school uniform helps protect us and any additions/changes to the uniform reduces that protection.

How so?

I mean, adding a bulletproof vest under your uniform is an addition/change to the uniform BUT instead increases the protection because a uniform can't stop a bullet. So if the uniform is meant to increase protection, why not changes to increase this protection is permitted?

I think what he meant by protecting you is social protection. A school uniform can help prevent bullying that happens because of the clothing style you choose. If you start adding attributes to the uniform some of that protection vanishes.

What if people look naturally better in certain colors that isn't the school uniform? How does it help you socially whatsoever?

You should be able to decide on your own fashion statement. All that School Uniform protection crap is BS. I wear black T-shirts with cargo pants or shorts.

Half my school wears poor looking clothing or clothing that is overpriced bunch of crap that is basically prep clothing. I don't care what people wear, as long as they are wearing something...well maybe not the ladies...

Really? Mostly everyone on here is in High School or College with a select few still in Middle School or like 40 years old

Waaay back in high school (last year, and the four before that), we had uniforms. There wasn't anything wrong with them. In fact, they were kind of nice, for several reasons.

1) I have a thing with germs. School is a cess-pool. At home, I could shed the uniform, and not worry about filth and germs on my clothes I liked.

2) It protects creepers/dealers/whatever from just waltzing in to the school and causing havoc/stabbing/kidnapping/raping your churches/burning your women/dealing drugs, etc. in your school un-noticed.

3) It really narrows down what you're going to wear the next day. Albeit, in winter and the likes the paper thin polyester pants aren't exactly wonderful, but I usually just wear pyjamas underneath.

4) You can cut/rip/destroy them all you want, it means little. I personally had a uniform with a collar (not sure about you all), and I cut two holes in it, to discreetly listen to music in class. My hair is long enough that it goes down to the collar at the sides, and the headphone is fed through there, around the collar, and down to an mp3 player in my pocket.

I think the main idea behind the uniforms deal comes from the big cities with all their gang-banger crap, were if you wear the wrong color clothes or whatever, you could get brutally battered, or even killed for it.

Seriously. Enough of the kids sell drugs as it is. lol. I could totally see someone who's like 23 going to a high school to score pot or hit on chicks or something. Like someone who is a /huge/ loser.

What do you people say... does this ever happen? My school had uniforms.

Arrow and I went to a private catholic school from first through eigth grade. The guys had to wear light blue shirts and navy blue pant, and girls had to wear white shirts with navy blue pants or a green skirt. The rules on uniforms were so strict, that you got demerits for having your shirt untucked, or If you were a guy, for having hair longer than 6 inches. Now Arrow and I are in public highscools where teachers only get on your case if you are nude or wearing a thong. Yay 9th grade.

You can wear a bullet proof vest under the uniform if you want. Legally speaking, they cant stop you.
