PS1 Joystick on SnesP
I am currently in the planning stages of my SNESp. I have a ps1 controller lying around and I saw the LOB had a joystick on his Nintendo Super Boy, can anybody explain how this is done.
He glued a joystick top to the d-pad, as I understand it.
Please keep an eye on my HBN64 progress.

hello, sorry for bumping this vintage thread
. but i was wondering this same exact thing, i want to just put a joy stick over the original dpad and i also want a dpad, i want to put a switch on the side to switch it from dpad to joy stick. anyone have a link of a snes project that has a joy stick.

hello. I just did this the other day with my atarip
will probably write a tutorial later, anyway, here's how to do it:
desolder the joystick
now you should have two potentiometers at the border, with 3 pins each
it should basically look like this:

with the lines being legs of the potentiometers. Connect the two middle lines
| | |

###_
to ground
now you can use the other 4 legs as switches.
if you go up with the joystick, for example:
| | |

###_
the upper leg on the side will be connected to ground, thus acting as a switch
another example:

It's that simple! The potentiometer will have a so low resistance on the side you're tilting it to, it will work as a switch. If you want to gain sensitivity (because you have to push far to achieve this in it's original form, sometimes), connect a strong (the weaker, the more sensitive it will be, the earlier it will react to a push) resistor between the other legs and ground

is that an original N64 joystick? Can't use these. They use a different technology.
Y'see the N64 joystick was (for no reason at all) based on a technology that would make a wheel with many holes spin when you pushed the joystick, it was basically the same as an old mouse. Now this technology was not only more expensive but also liked to die sooner, which is why 3rd party n64 controllers use potentiometers as well, and are thus OK to use
I got my stick from a 3rdparty gamecube controller
