Music Software Anyone good with programming: Make some money

Post by Kurt_ »

The payment will be after program approval by myself. If it's not good, you don't get payed. Or you can do it for free, or direct me towards an existing product that does this!

Basically, I've found a neat little way to assemble my music files (as I'm an individual artist playing all the instruments). It's never not the case where one or two instruments are slightly off beat, due to various delays and the likes from various sources.

Well, I found that using Audacity and zooming in rather close, I can delete or duplicate sections of near-quiet from the last note and create a seamless sounding piece that is exactly on beat.

I figure it wouldn't be too hard to make a program to do this, and it could save me hours of work.

Here's what it has to do:

1) Accept a specific timing in beats per minute.
2) Adjust the music so that specific peaks of the wave forms (ex. the note at the start of every bar) line up with the beats. This must be accomplished without adding silence, changing the pitch etc. For me, this will be accomplished by adding or removing the few moments before the note is struck.

Now, this may already exist. Audacity does have an "Align tracks together" function, but I don't think it works like I want to.

Here's an example.

(Anyone else hate how imageshack got rid of the simple "direct link to image" button?)

Well I know Garageband features something like this, but it's not precisely what you're describing. All I know is it has an option to "fix timing" based off of what BPM and time signature you assign to the project.

But you're probably not using a Mac, are you?...

P.S. You can still open the image on that page in a new window to figure out it's direct address :P

Do you listen to the previously recorded instruments while you play the others? That could probably help you keep the instruments on beat.

Weird. I was just thinking about this same thing last night while recording some music for my game. I think the audacity method of copy/pasting small pieces to match things perfect is probably the method we all use. I do anyway.

Vskid: No. I used to do this, but then everything got so messed up in the end it was horrible. I make a simple, basic drum beat (1 + 2 + 1 + 2 or something) and record to that, so any offset would only be for one instrument, and if it was too bad it could be re-recorded.

I accidentally downloaded Acoustica MixCraft (beatcraft is my drum machine). It features some thing like that but I don't think it does what I want. It really didn't do much, to be honest.

lol not sure how good you are in programming, but it would probly take me several hours/days to make a simple audio tool with the features you ask.

and the first comment is something you can't ask for serious to a programmer, first send you ask a copy and then leave me hoping for any payment at all lol.

so if you are serious about a custom audio tool, descreibe in detail what you want and how much you have to spend and send me a PM

Try Ableton Live. Only problem is that the program has a bit of a learning curve, but when you're past that it's perfect for realigning audio files. (And composing music and even performing music as well)
