I'm tired of seeing battery threads.

We have a subforum for screens, what do you think about one for batteries/power in general?

It seems like it's the hardest part of portablizing, or at least the part that requires the most know-how.

no. everything you need to know about other power requirements (voltage regulators and the like) SHOULD be covered in that specific consoles stickies.

But batteries, like screens, are inter-console-changeable. The only difference comes when you do your voltage regulations, and such.
Am I right?

Each console has its own power requirements, so that topic should be in the appropriate console forum.

sorry, I agree with triton
I would definitely say batteries are portable specific.

plus most of the battery threads are pointless and can be answered by either saying
"no those batteries suck"
or
"yeah they're alright"

there really isn't to much to batteries, they have a + and a - and are all wired the same unless you want to get into protection circuits

yes, but how you USE the specific battery depends on what system you are using it with. if we had a battery section all it would be is "how do i use X battery with Y system" which should go in that systems section, like i said.

there are many different screens which take different inputs. There are like 5 battery types, and it's all pretty basic. A forum wouldn't be worth it.

What do V, mAh, W mean?

How long will this last?

What are the difference between the different kinds of batteries?

Which are the best for this purpose?

How much should I spend?

Where can I but batteries?

Theres this cool thing called GOOGLE. its real easy to use! its not our job to spoonfeed every noob that comes to our forum, what information that cant be found on google is probably already in a sticky in the appropriate forum. most of this stuff is the absolute most basic electronics information.

People come to this site every day with basic electronics questions, and we still help them. We answer the same questions about batteries on a regular basis as well, it's redundant not to have basic info stickied.

and if they dont know that kind of basic information (parallel and serial, what Ma is etc) then they shouldnt be jumping headfirst into making portables. thats basic electronic knowledge, the kinda stuff most people learned in elementary school science classes it shouldnt be our responsibility to spoonfeed every noob that wanders along! sure basic questions like "how do i find out how long will a system drawing 500ma run on batteries through a 80% efficient regulator" or "can you tell me where to find info on how to LED mod a psone screen"" i am fine with answering but "OMG HOW DO I HOOK DIS BATTERY TO MY N64!!1" is crap

But people ask anyway.

You can either female of the dog species about it like you're basically doing, and tell them to google it, or you tell them to look at the sticky. (But there isn't one yet!)

There aren't stickies for this, and they are common questions from n00bs.
This is not only a site for experienced modders, it's also the starting point for many people into electronics in general.
You say that people like this shouldn't be "jumping headfirst into making portables," but why not? There is no better way to learn than by doing. Many of the great modders on this site came from humble beginnings, and they started right here.

I think it's possible to start with no experience, and I think all of the information necessary should be available on this site.

That's what I think.
