Forum Contest: Handheld Modding Compo STARTED!

Post by palmertech »

Ok, IT IS ON!!!

The rules are:

1. The contest starts RIGHT NOW.

2. The contest will end March 1, 2009 at 9:00 PM PST

3. You are eligible if your project is handheld, runs on electricity from an onboard source, and is customized in some way.

4. Multiple entires are allowed, but the number of votes you get is proportionate to their value. If you have one entry, a vote is worth 10 points, if you have two, they are worth 5, and so on.

5. The voting will be held portable-palooza style, with a polling thread with your first, second, and third choices.

6. Yor project must not be more than 20% completed as of this post (Honor system here, guys. ;) )

7. First prize is DSTT DS flashcart. If you guys want more prizes, donate any old stuff to the cause. EDIT: Portable prize is also a DSTT, thanks to the generosity of jleemero. :D

Two categories: Handheld mods, and portables.

8. Please point out problems with these rules.

OLD: The Portable-Palooza was a lot of fun, an it really stimulated a lot of new projects, forcing people to get their butts in gear to actually make "That idea I had a long time ago", or something.

That said, it was a wee bit hard to make a whole portable in the time given, especially if it was your first time. The old controller making contest seemed to be a lot easier for people to join in on.

Here is my idea, completely subject to modification/additions, or whatnot.

Have a benheck handheld modding contest, 6 weeks long. It could be a "Handheld game system modding contest" (GBA, PSP, DS, Gp2x, etc.), or, perhaps more interesting, ANY electronic device that is handheld, like watches, calculators, mp3 players, other random gizmos.

I might have some stuff that could be used for prizes, anybody else up for the idea? I would say what you would like the contest to be, then if it ever gets started, have a mod decide what the final format is on the start day of the contest. That way, nobody can have a head-start.

Thoughts?

(Also, the forums are slower than a cat on a treadmill slicked with oil. Anybody else notice this?)

I think it would count, just unlikely to win.
I may be in, give me an excuse to start modding my n800.

Im in if we can do it. mines a controller mod.
If we were working on a project, it broke, and we had to start all over again, if I waited to restart it could it count?

Well, mods that make games worse tend to not win contests :?

I, and probably many others, can not attend any real-life events for various reasons, so that would rule us out.

count me in the contest. I am stuffing a GBA( not sp) in a gbo case with a few extras. Don't worry, Palmertech, it won't be like yours.

This is a fair idea. I might be in, if I can get some of my project money out to play with.
Please keep an eye on my HBN64 progress.

It took up too much space. Then I glanced over and saw that empty GBO case.
