Cooling?

I'm sure this has been asked many times before..but what kind of cooling solutions are there for the N64? I intend to keep it in it's original case.

I'm thinking i'll keep the bottom shield...I measured and you have 7 mm of clearance from the bottom shield to the plastic..to small for any fans there.

For the top side..I'm not sure. I'd like to get rid of the massive heatsinks and put some smaller ones with fins and a bunch of fans.

What have you guys done? What works? There's plenty of space above for fans, so I think I'ma put a bunch in.

All you need to do is put on some decent heatsinks, the n64 heatsinks were made for a passive cooling system that spreads the heat over a large area, but that is no good for a portable. What you want to do is buy some small decent heatsinks and yes maybe get a fan

Alright then. Does anyone know the temp that the RAM, CPU and the GPU are supposed to run at? Or what they typically run at with the stock heatsink setup? Can someone check for me?

I couldn't tell you, but I can tell you that ANY modern heatsink from ANYTHING will work.

They're pretty high-tech, for chunks of metal.

Ah, well, I had already found the ones I was gonna use..

Big fans.
They're quiet.

Get the biggest one you can afford to fit.

Ah. Well...I'm not really concerned about noise, only consideration is really what will properly keep it cool...followed by how much it'll run me

Try not to spend more than $10USD shipped.
But locally if you can.
Even Radioshack can't overprice a $4 slotfan.

Meh. Radioshack here is small and understocked. I try to buy online when I can lol

Would it be too much of a power drain to have 3-5 of these? I'm thinking one for CPU/GPU/RAM...and if that works, maybe another 2 for each side, to blow in air?

Dude, having more than 1 fan is pretty much over kill, and it would make your case huge.

See if you can find a small slot fan, they work better for the small space given.

No.
heatsinks are made to work with active cooling systems.
Unless you have a huge thermal mass like the heat shielding in the original console, you need to move some air.

you can use the stock heatsinks if you use the shielding that was origionally on the mobo, if you modify it a little
