I would say nes because of the nomad in existence, but I am notsure what you want to know. Do you want to know which is easier to make portable?

the genesis is easier but it is bulky. the nes mobo is smaller but you have to build more custom circuits in order to make it effective

Its up to you. Personallly, I would make a portable out of the system you have your favorite games on(out of the two).

There's more info available for the NES, and there is more you can do, so if you enjoy doing this kind of stuff, you should do the NES

Best to do a system that you like the games it plays. You then get more satisfaction with the results.
