x-arcade on a snes

Post by Drakon »

I'm sure people around here are familiar with the x-arcade controller. I came across a wonderful opportunity to buy a used x-arcade with a blown pcb for 15$ (the controller was complete and had all the parts except for 1 missing button on the side). So I figured for 15$ I could do something useful with a shell of a x-arcade. Then after taking it home I went through my closet-o-parts and came across this old snes controller I got for free that has a broken case (R button plastic was busted). Now since the pcb of this snes controller works fine I just looked at it....then looked back over at the shell of a x-arcade.....and an idea came to me.

So most people looked at this project and their initial response was "....what a waste of time". Honestly....I had this thing completed in my spare time of just 1 weekend. And for 15$ I spent way less than what someone would buy a crappy snes arcade style stick for.

here's a picture of the innards upon completion

I also found out a snes controller is compatible with a NES so I took a controller from one of my NES clones and wired the port onto the end of the cord

just a fun little weekend project really. Once the last part I need for my supergun comes in I'm converting this stick for use on a sega genesis (since the vogatek I ordered uses genesis controller ports). I would have it running on both snes and genesis but the snes and genesis controller pcbs interfere with each other when hooked up to the same buttons (beats me why).

yeah it plays great. Only thing that's frustrating is the controller is big and heavy and sometimes when playing I just want to lay back and relax when playing. Pretty straightforward mod you just attach positive wires to the positive half of the button points on the controller pcb. I wired all the negatives together and have just one wire going onto the negative part of the pcb (since they're all connected anyway)
