Problem loading CFW

Well after a long wait for my psp slim to arrive (thank you to BestBuy for being so amazingly slow), first things first I'm trying to load CFW on it. I'm following "GUIDE: How to Custom Firmware PSP-1000's and PSP-2000's", I purchased a tool battery, everything fine up until part 3 trying to actually put the CFW on the PSP.

I hold down my L trigger button, put in the tool battery, green light pops on but nothing happens to the screen, it just stays black. I've sat here and held the button for a minute or two, tried a bunch of stuff and still no luck. Redid the MMS a couple times, it appears it should be fine I never get any errors creating it or anything. I've got to assume the tool battery is fine, its charged up, just pulled it out of the box. Its made by datel, bought it off divineo.
Update: I've tried different functions, trigger buttons, still no luck. Green light turns on and stays on, screen stays black. I'm going to try to get 3.9 OFW to try to install that, but that'll take me another 6 hours to download on this internet if it doesn't time out and cancel downloading half way through. I watched off youtube 'How to make a Magic Memory Stick (THE BEST WAY )' did the exact steps, no luck. I never get the menu screen. Only thing I can think of is maybe I have a bad version of 401.PBP or I need to manually make a MMS. Hard to download files when your stationed in Iraq, makes things more complicated then it should

The PSP is a new slim 2001, its running OFW 4.01, maybe that could be the issue? Its already got 4.01 and I'm trying to put 4.01 M33-2 on it? I've got no clue, first time trying to put CFW on a psp.

If you've got any tips or ideas I'd appreciate all the help I can get. Maybe its a 88v3 motherboard, I guess I'd have to go find a tutorial to figure out if thats the case or not but the internet out here in Iraq is so slow its hard to even get google to load sometimes heh. If you used my guide, why didnt you comment on there? you would have gotten a response earlier...

but anyway, It sounds like you do have a slim with a TA 88v3 or it is a 3000, ( just assuming, because most sites to purchase things assume as them as a slim & lite )

Just 1 quesrtion, did you put 4.01 on there, or did it come pre installed? if you did put it on there, do you know what it was before?

by the way, if it is a TA 88v3, dont buy datels light blue pandora battery. they wont work...

Alright I'll download that and give it a go. I'll be pretty upset if I have a 88v3 motherboard, defeat the whole reason for going ahead and finally buying a psp. Thanks for the help.

4.01 was already on it

Update: After putting in the command to format with the mspformat E command, I'm getting a message "Pseudo format is not necessary." is that normal? I probably wont be able to download 390 and 405 to run the rest of the test for quite a while. Oh well.

I just read the rest of the directions. I don't have a psp with CFW already on it, so I can't get the files to do the test. If someone could do the steps that require a homebrewed psp and upload them somewhere I'd apprecicate it. I'll search google for them in the mean time.

well, if your PSP had 4.01 already on it, dont bother using the identifier.... It is a TA 88v3, unless you can somehow get the MMS to work, if it does, then you have a TA 88v2...

but, its not very lucky... and im not really help giving you the files, ive had no need for it, since my slim came with 3.60, it is a TA 85.... where my friends is a TA 87v2, and my friend with a phat is a TA 79v2.. or was it 78?

Yeah I've pretty much came to the sad conclusion thats its a 88v3, I've used different programs to make a MMS and manually made it using anywhere from 3.71 to 4.01 and nothing has worked.

So, my christmas present for myself has turned into a gloried DVDrip player for while I'm sitting on post since I haven't any games mailed out to me yet just some emulators and a couple cso's I brought with me on my external. Maybe for christmas santa will get dark alex to release a cfw that can be used on a 88v3 lol.
