PSOne power (?) but no disk spin

So I've wired up the whole thing with the generous help of the book and the forums (thank you everyone).

I put in a battery and the green LED comes on, the screen backlight comes on, and the screen goes blacker than before. I am getting readings of around 7.2V at the battery, the screen power input and the on switch which I jumped but I am not sure where else to take voltage readings to check why the disk motor is not spinning.

Any help would be much appreciated.

check the 7805 and possible connectors to the motor.

Thanks for the quick reply. I'm getting 7.8 V and 5.0 V on the 7805. I'm presuming they're input and output voltages.

I'll have a bit of a mess with the motor. What sort of reading should I be getting do you know? Also are you German? Stupid question I know but I'm a German translator and I only got into this portablizing thing through my job!

The 7805 seems fine, as for the motor, I wouldn't check the values, I would check the connectors, pick the diode symbol on your multimeter, and it should beep when the black and red cable are connected. Then simply check if all the lines to the motor (I'm assuming there's some sort of rubbon?) are connected properly.

I haven't actually worked with the PSOne, so I can really just take educated guesses.

OK, my meter does not have that beep function so I just measured for voltage and got what seemed like "normal" readings from all the connections.

Tried it with disc in and disc out.

I am absolutely stumped.

well, if you have a spare PSOne, you could put it in there and see if it will work there. If it doesn't, it's dead (or maybe the ribbon is), if it does, it's the PSOne that has the problem

PANIC OVER!

It turned out I hadn't jumped the lid sensor switch after removing it. Doh!

I've just put a paperclip in there and it's spinnig away. (Although nothing else is happening)

Just read this thread for the first time - the lid sensor was the first thing that came to my mind!

My current project is my first project with a CD system; so I did some fairly heavy reading in all the forum threads in this section before starting my project; which is where I picked up about the CD switch...
