You mean it's a shame that Europe doesn't use the same standards as America right? Jk, This country sucks.
There's a reason I put it the way I did, PAL is better quality (higher res)

besides, you guys used to be our colony, so you better use what we tell you to use!

Riiiiiight. I'll be sure to do that. There's a reason we revolted.

It all boils down to $$$, though. They're making these things to be sold where they will sell the best. Americans love to throw their money away.

The reason we have region differences is to deter pirating.
We can't just have a universal region.
I support the metric system though.
But not universal currency. On failed economy would mess up the whole thing. Aka, I don't want our crappy dollar tied to the Euro, and be unable to gain worth again.

We won't be going to Euros anytime soon with our economy f***ed up the way it is. Trust me, you really don't want us to do that.

What would that have to do with pirating? What do region differences have to do with pirating in any way possible?

We have region diffrences because back when these standards were made, globalisation was nothing to worry about, so everyone just went with their own thing and once it was out there for a couple of hundred years, you couldn't just switch back. Well, I guess it wouldn't be so much of a problem with meters but switching to PAL or the plug type, or voltage coming from stuff isn't quite that easily switched.

If only you brits hadn't sent them the tea so early, you should have at least waited till they had started using meters

No. PAL sucks. 50hz? Slower games? Poor conversions? That sounds great. 60hz RGB is superior to all, though.

Dude, 50Hz doesn't mean slower games, it just means less pictures per second. The games were slowed because the programmers were lazy and just made them slower instead of changing the game to simply put out less pictures. If everyone would be using pal, this problem would not exist.

Not sure what you mean by poor conversions

Honestly, we have a standard that is 40-60 years old. Well before pirating was even a side concern (and huh? Pirating a show in the 70's? Wait.... what? Just use your 8mm camera.... no region difference there). It's about time we started adopting a worldwide video display signal, especially seeing as how far televisions have progressed.

And then, in 40 years' time, we can talk about how much NTSC and PAL are crap next to OMFGWTFBBQSAANDWICHES!!! standard.

Well, we're going in the right directions with HD, aren't we?

But yes, there should be global standards for everything, not just TV resolutions.

I've always wondered and never been able to check:

Would it be possible to run all 3 cartridge types off of one modified cart-slot?
Is it possible for pins to be shared?

This is probably totally impossible, but it's a thought worth checking out, I suppose.

Lovablechevy was trying to get a RetroDuo to do that, but it didn't work out. I thought Rekarp was going to try it, but I haven't heard one way or the other if he managed it.

I have no idea what it would involve to even try it, though.
