Just Finished - Guide on How to Make a Portable

Post by Mario »

I have taken the time to put together an extensive guide on making a portable game system. It is hosted on Instructables here. Here is a PDF if you prefer. (Right-Click > Save Link As)

EDIT: My Instructable was featured! Whoo! ^_^
Check the homepage and it'll be there. For a while, anyway.

EDIT AGAIN: Now it's popular! Double whoo! :D

ANOTHER EDIT: It's been Hack-a-Day'ed. Oh. My. Gosh.

Congrats on getting featured!
That's no simple task.

Can we expect one for any other systems?

Probably not. This guide was meant to be a general guide for all portables. It tells about batteries, cases, screens, and all the other stuff to make a portable. The only thing you would change is where to attach power and A/V.

I won't make another because this Instructable was a TON of work. I had to take pictures of every step in building my portable, and that slowed me down considerably.
Also, I spent month writing the Instructable. That's a lot of words!

Very true. I probably work about 1/3 speed on projects as 2/3 of the time is spent taking pics and doing WIP guides. Part of the fun though of a project!

I actually just finished reading your guide on Instructables - found it by random browsing and didn't even check the front page. Excellent job, by the way - that was a lot of very detailed writing. Makes me want to get off my rear and write that SNES guide I've always wanted to put on Instructables.

It takes a big man to cry, but it takes a bigger man to laugh at that man.

lol. Did you read his part about your case? :D
Here is a poorly-done N64 portable. It is possible to make nicer-looking ones, this person just didn't spend much time on the case. See how important it is to make a nice case?

Well, yeah. Of course I didn't need to spend much time on that case. But I have already explained that. I could have covered it all up with boxez and gotten completly different comments.

You should put up my Zn-45(#6) N64p under the polycase section. Just lemme get a good pic.

 No hard feelings for the diss!

Yeah, about that...

I was kinda hoping you wouldn't see that.

I'll add in that you made a better one with the Polycase (It does look nicer, right?)
