The Slim does NOT run on the same voltage as the Psone screen. It runs at 8.5v, lowest maybe is 8.2v.

If you put in too little, it won't turn on, too much and it'll fry. Simple as that.

The only choice I can think of, is to use a 7 cell NiMh pack, they're 8.4v, using one on mine right now. Li-ions are 3.7v apiece, so the closest voltage to that 8.5v is the 7.4v with two, it'd be possible to use a step-up converter to bump it up to 8.5v but that's a bit more work than anyone beginning should take on.

Even if the ps2 slim runs off 8.4V the psone screen is fine with that voltage. It can go all the way up to nine volts.

The batteries at full charge will blow the screen. You can use the Zenith screen's regulator board to turn the 8.4v into 7.5v, great efficiency too, also means the screen will never blow from too much power. Same screen as the psones, but they're cheaper nowadays and a lot more common.
