gamecube disk drive can't read disk

Post by confuserized »

Whenever I turn on the gamecube, the laser moves back and forth for a couple of seconds, and after the logo shows up, there is a message that says the gamecube can't read the disk. Does anyone know why the gamecube is doing this? I could replace the laser, but I don't want to have to rip apart another gamecube.

Unfortunately the only way to fix it would to be to either:

A) Adjust the Laser Pot (Try this first)
B) Buy a new Laser
C) Buy a new Disk Drive

Of course you could try to clean it first also, but I think the pot needs adjusted or its just shot.

are you using original or backup discks?

do you tried to do any of the DD reallocation mods mentioned at this forum? or your cube DD still default allocation?

if you not using any of the reallocation mods mentioned at this forum, try doing steeps harshboy mentioned

for adjust the pot you will need have a multimeter and open you gamecube.

then get the dd and look for this:

dont pay attention about the 170-210 ohms tip, you can use other values if your drive still without read properly (for example, I had to turn my pot to 80 ohms to read vertatim +r discs)

try also crean the laser head with some bath paper wet with alcohol, then clean it very *carefully*.

if those dont work, its time to replace laser or the entire DD drive
